Hi all
I have purchased a Dominix that I intend to use for NPC hunting. I am looking for ideas with regards to a decent setup. I have read through this forum a bit and now I am posting to see what kind of setups people use.
I am looking at a long range setup, so I expect to be using 425''s and possibly MWD.
I have Elec 5 and Eng 5, also Weapon Upgrades lvl 4.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Once chaos is fixed I will test the ship out there, but for now you guys are my insperation!

when i hunted with my dominix i used loads of heavy drones, i'm not sure how well this works in 0.0 though.

Drones in 0.0 work when released late, so not when the npc's are still targeting and 50km away. They do work well when the NPC's are very close to you, rip up them cruisers very satifactory. Just bring many of em, you will lose a few.
The guns should indeed be 425's and maybe 250's to round it off. Beware of capacity shortage tho, cause the dom hasnt got that much of it. I imagine you have the skills there as well so it might not be a problem.
Midslots as usual for NPC's, meaning shieldbooster, hardener(s), MWD, and sensorbooster.
Low's to make things fit as you want them, include at least 2 warpcore stabs for 0.0, if possible you can do more. Cap relays and a damage mod might be nice too.
anyway, NPC setups arent that hard. Experiment a bit and just be carefull in 0.0

Well I think the Dom is a great close range ship. BUt if you are adamant about a long range set up, try this:
hi: 4 425 rails (thorium/lead: 50: 80 km), 2 med blasters (AM: 1-2 km) mid: mwd, L shield, sensor booster, tracking computer, shield amp low: 4 cap relays, 2 mag vortex, 1 warb stab drone bay: ogres and wasps, in case any rats get past your rails
Make sure you have gall bs to at least 3, and L hybrid to at least 4. Without those skills, rails are inferior to other long range choices like laser or projectiles. Plus traj analysis 4 to help with tracking and all other gunnery skills to at least 4

Edited by: Nathaniel X on 11/03/2004 21:16:20 Lentia - what do you use for a close range setup? Whilst I would go for large blasters I have heard of people using medium blasters.....isn't that a waste?

Indeed, use MWD, 7 mag vortex and 6 dual heavy ions with a medium slot cap injector and a full bay of heavies. Completely ridiculous setup but will rip most things apart in less than a minute

No medium blasters are not a waste. The large blasters are great for bs but not so good for cruisers and almost a total waste for frigates. So use 3 large nuetron and 3 med neutron. Plus you cant fit 6 L blasters anyway without wasting too many low slots on power mods.
One member of our corp used all medium named blasters on her dom and shield tanked with a large booser, amp, and 2 hardners. The rest were cap relays and I think a tracker and damage mod. Worked good during the old farming days. Especially against 10-40k Gurristas that close in on ya. Another advantage is since all the rats were popped at 1km, she just scooped the cargo as she went, no need to track them down.
If you want to hunt NPC with Dom close range setup, you need to know what rats you are fighting and what type of damage they do. For hybrid-therm/kinetic, lasers-em/therm etc. Do they fire missles? If so you need at least one med smartbomb cause dom has no launcher.
Close range NPC try:
3 large, 3 med blasters (?smartbomb) mwd, L shield, 2 approriate hardners, 1 tracker 5 cap relays, stab, damage mod.

Against Guristas i'd forget about the smartbomb since they put out quite a bit of missiles - use hardeners and shield booster instead to soak the damage. Also some of them like to keep a certain distance from you (10km-23km+) or web you, so use a mix of 425mm and dual 250mm and MwD with dmg mods and cap relays on low. If they get close ,let the drones loose. But best of all, it's up to you to find the sweet spot setup...

On a side note, the blaster "wet your pants" setup works against npc's too but requires a bit of coordination. with a thorax and 5 modal ions i mwd'ed to the one in the middle of the bunch ,@ 15km i would release the drones - the trick for me was to mwd "land" on the other side of the rats leaving the drones free of trouble to attack on their back @ my command while i was blasting away and keeping an eye on the shield/armor. Wasps and praetors are good for this strategy. If your not using keyboard shortcuts already this is a good opportunity to start using them - they still need improvements from CCP but nevertheless they are handy... In PvP they are mandatory.

Muhaha. I like this fitting :) it's evil
For the future I would think the Dom would do better with the new "smaller" rails.

I use a domi sometimes for mining and/or npc hunting. I always use blasters though. With 2 blasters and 4 miners I can fight 40k rats easy without drones. For the smaller rats a web is nice so you can get better hits. If I go for npc hunting setup I use 5 blasters and a large smartbomb. The sb takes care of little frigs. Med slot I use shield booster, mwd (a must with blasters), web and whatever I feel like. Low slot some RCU and cap relays plus 2 warp cores.
And obviously the drone bay with heavies. Just remember not to use the sb once the drones are out! MM Channel "EVE University" www.eve-university.cjb.net (ingame) EVE University commercial |

a Dom is THE drone carrier and you fit it such that you can mine and fight without using them? ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

The fact that I can doesn't mean that I do. I use harvies when I'm mining and no npc around. When I plan to stay out long I only use combat drones when I need to so I don't have to go to a station to repair them.
