meh, i once found a site which recorded the amount of online players over the last 4 years. unfortunately i cannot find it anymore :(
The trend was/is rising. Slowly but surely they are gaining more and more.
Given, this game isnt for everyone (like wow)

I don't worry if we lose players. The game coped well enough with fewer and I'm sure any loss will be temporary.
However, if we started losing monkeys.. or heaven forbid kittens... then we could start worrying...

Originally by: Apocryphai Fact of the matter is that the number of paying accounts is complicated by factors such as 2nd accounts, GTC's, inactive (but still paying) accounts etc.
The ONLY reliable number we have is the number of people logged on and playing at any one time. And this number is still growing. Since the launch of EVE this number has slowly but steadily increased constantly. It's the only MMORPG that this is true for.
So even if a large part of those numbers online are made up of alt and/or trial accounts the fact that it's still growing consistently would indicate that CCP are doing something right.
And for certain CCP are NOT losing players "each day", lol :)
Well, since there's really no reason to have an actual discussion here, let's quibble on points!
EVE is clearly losing players each day. I guarantee that at least one individual cancels one account each and every day of the year. Also, the increase in the number of accounts doesn't necessarily correlate to an influx of new players, it could merely be due to the purchases of multiple accounts. The logon numbers are skewed by macro ops, trials, and spambots.
(Regardless, EVE's doing fine and growing over time.)

I find it kind of funny that the op doesn't notice that the vast majority of the community actually doesn't mind Trinity much. It has bugs, but then all of the expansions do. Eve is going strong and it seems like it will continue to do so. I think the op wanted an answer to solve his rants elsewhere, but honestly the majority don't care as much about things like how you have to put scripts on your damps now. They adjust and move on.
I'd recommend it.
Plus Eve has gotten much prettier, and that makes a lot of people happy.

I know it's scary when everyone goes away.... I need a hug. :)
I'd think EVE is running in positive numbers at the mo, be it new players or reactivated subs.

Looking at the alltime trend, EvE isnt loosing players (or atleast refeshing those that leave quicker than they can go)
As shown, yesterday we reached a new alltime high of 41690 players.

Originally by: Mecinia Lua The trouble is that could be new players coming into the game and finding it broken.
Unlikely that new players finds the game broken. I'm not aware of any bug that stops me getting a frig and doing lvl.1 missions, go mining or aware that anything is broken that I can or want to buy with my few thousand isk during the first weeks.
EVE Trinity seems to run usually fine without problems, if you stay away from pos warfare and Jita on sundays of course, which should be easy for a newbie, too.
So yes, nothing to worry. The new players will come. The only problem is that some sites have stated that Trinity is harmfull, but they didn't include the facts that the full release wasn't affected by that bug and that the problem with the patch was already fixed at 4:00 AM.

I love how people are using "Old people are leaving" as a reason. I mean of course old people are leaving...if you've been playing a game for over two years/three years/four years I think you'll have your fill as that's a good long run, not as if their presence no more actually matters. About three "old players" I know have left...mostly because of the fact they got bored of playing the same game for 3 years and wanted a break.

That's a good guess, and better than mine. I was thinking that, from the amount of people whining on the forums, CCP isn't losing enough.

Originally by: DrAtomic Lol just set a new pcu record and you are talking about how many people CCP is loosing? If YOU decide to cancel then it doesn't mean everybody else is. MMORPG's have a natural flow and so far Eve is one of the very few if not the only one who succeeded in maintaining growth year after year.
Saw PCU at 41659 last night.
and you dear kiddie think abit further... its 41k accounts what? trials? Use your brain, dont spam meaningless conclusions.
CCP should show us real results... how much subscribed members does CCP have? I think they wont because that number will be very very disappointing next to 41k
200.000 subs are published by CCP (last month or so).
Don't call me a kiddie when: 1. I'm more then double your age in all likelyhood. 2. I'm not the one crying that everyone should quit because I got burned out with it. 3. You are the one posting doom and gloom whilst in reality a new record has been set, sure it includes trial it also means there is an increased interest of at least 7000 trials over last week of which at least a certain percentage will convert to subs. 4. I'm not the one failing to realise that a PCU record indicates resubs and heaps of trials which will lead to more subs and thus will make up for the canceling of the few that do. 5. I'm not the one who can't handle change. MMORPGS change, sometimes this means love other times it means you are hitting hard by the nerfbat. Whiners like you killed DAOC, accept that bugs are part of any game, accept that changes are CCP's to decide not ours, accept that a good whine about it may get it out of your system, then get over it or take a break untill you are up to it again. 6. I'm not the one failing to realise that EvE is the only MMORPG that consistenly grows instead of stabalizing and/or declines. ----------------------------------------------- iskies + my wallet = <3

I love these "this game is losing people and failing" type of threads that surface soon after someone had a less than great experience in the game.
Has been an MMO trend to start these threads ever since the failure of Vanguard.
EVE, as opposed to Vanguard, is succeeding across the board (except perhaps with combatting isk-spam/sellers). Ever since the game was launched it has had, perhaps slow, but a growing playerbase.
In my experience, EVE is like wine, it only gets better as the years go by. Pity some don't have patience. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Unless their accounts happened to expire in the last 5 days, probably nearly none.
Why wouldn't you at least log in to talk to friends in game as long as your sub is active? With the current state of jumpclones a lot of people I know are stuck doing exactly this.
Any drop in numbers wouldn't be seen for 20-60 days on average until the 'average joe's' sub runs out. With any sort of luck, CCP will have pulled their head out of their ass by then and the damage will be minimal.
As far as the MSU record, good on CCP, it shows that people DO NOT WANT TO PARTICIPATE in large scale warfare for territorial gain (they just want to pve in a pvp game). I'm sure CCP will look at this and continue to dumb down a fine pvp game.

Being that CCP writes a lot of code that works and a lot of code that doesn't work, can we trust the numbers they return as online as being accurate?

Since they increased their current concurrent login record from 37900 or so to 41900 or so, I dont think they have lost anything at all...
The publish is a success after all. One major bug allright, and a POS bug aside (there will allways be buggs after a major publish!) the game have become revitalized completely. It now looks way fresher.
Also, I think its childish and pathetic making such posts as the OP do. Loosing players??? its the best game on the market! And I think there have to be more then a few bugs - serious or not - before this wonderful game starts loosing players!
Get real!

Yep but while many MMOs prohibit multiple accounts, CCP endorses them (and makes them necessary for some game content). Therefore the numbers aren't really comparable with other MMOs and you cannot say "200k people" :-/.
Most people who have been around for more than a year will have 2+ accounts, many have 4-5 or more.
Most online games I know dont prohibit owning multiple accounts. Actually I dont think they cant either. A account is one independent unit. I know multiple people having multiple accounts in WoW. I had multiple acccounts in SWG! 5 to be exact! A mad friend of me from SWG had 14!!! Accounts in the old EverQuest I... So yes, it is possible to have many accounts in other online games...

Eh, guys and gals. About those GTC accounts. So the person using them doesn't pay for them. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, SOMEWHEN, paid CCP for the time code. So even though the individual in question using said code is not paying cash, someone else essentially paid their account for them.
See how that works? CCP still makes money on GTC accounts. Fascinating, isn't it?
