BURN EDEN

First let me say that this post is to reiterate my opinions on the aspect of EVE to those that scream nerf, to those that wonder why everything gets nerfed. I was even one that was upset about some of the changes, so I can empathize with many of the player base. Keeping that in mind, remember these are opinions not facts.
Long ago when CCP was first beginning I imagine a small group of people that came together and decided to make a futuristic space aged game where players could do almost anything they wanted and have FUN doing it. Players would run missions, PVP, form market trends, almost like a little SIM city. As the player base grew so did the content.
The introduction of recons, HAC's, Carriers and Dreadnaughts were massive improvements in the eyes of many of the player base. This patch if I remeber correctly was called Red Moon Rising. It was the peak of EVE IMO and many others. WHY?
This patch introduced new ships yes, but what it did was open game play. It introduced a wider range of EW ships, Counters to speed, heavy tanks, other forms of EW. In other words it turned Rock, Paper, Scissors, into Rock, Paper, Scissores, Glue, Anvil, Tinfoil 8), ect. It opened gameplay until the latest Trinity of which is taking it all away.
EVE has grown so much in my time of playing it. A small gang today is mostly composed of about 20-30 people. It used to be you, and two or three of your friends. Anyways, as it grew so did the younger players. Younger players are fine IMO, however in order to make more money CCP closed the gap between almost all of the player base. They have introduced more new ships that are impossible to afford for most players. It has become a company now, CCP. There main motive is making money. No longer do they care about keeping people happy, they just want to keep as many people as they can. It seems that CCP used to be a company that said hey look how much fun our player base is having our game rocks 8). To hey look at all of our awards and new graphics engines our game rocks...... player base -> but running 2 accounts and all the bugs make playing difficult.... CCP -> So what look at all our awards. boot.ini... whats that? Heh.
Well I know its my opinions but that is what I think has happened and I am frustrated because I really did like this game, and I think so did most of the CCP staff. Thier priorities have changed obviously, but there is good news... Pirates of the Burning Sea is actually pretty good. 8)
If you made it this far and are confused this is mostly a rant on my part to alleviate frustration. Feel free to discuss comment.... omg BE flame him. I dont really care. Just said to think Ill be selling a lot of my stuff soon 8(. See ya laters 0/

perhaps you just need to take a little break (and see if you still want to play eve or another game), you sound like you been playing for years, no wonder you're tired with eve :)
that sounds scarily like failing relationship advice, hmmmm ________________ the way back home is always long, but if you're close to me i'm holding on. |

Edited by: Valrandir on 10/12/2007 20:02:50 Red Moon Rising introduced carriers and motherships, but dreadnoughts were intruduced earlier with Cold War.
Exodus -> POS Cold War -> Dread RMR -> Carriers and Motherships

I had a corp mate who felt that the game was getting too nerfed... he became quite upset and left the game. Thankfuly he tranfered the character to the CEO but still all the same the nerfs and nerfing trend raised his ire and caused him to leave.
However I look at it this way. All MMO's are nerfed and buffed sometimes without sensible reason sometimes with and sometimes your just the unluckly player who continually is the subject of the nerf. But EVE does something that no one else can claim to do.
40k players playing in the same universe with most everything being player caused and all players are on a level playing field. A level playing field in that NO PLAYER is immune to another or group of others. On top of it its internet spaceships. That is way cool.
So while I can understand the ire I can not nor probably ever will raise to that level where I say forget it all. Search: Sky Grunthor |

Edited by: Indigo Johnson on 10/12/2007 20:06:31 So what your saying is that 10 people with 10 years skill point training total (all of them together) say, should be able to combat 100 people with 10 years skill point training (or another way that 10 people with an average total SP of 1 year training should be equal to 100 people with 0.01 years training)?
That kinda analogy?

Yea, anything that gets the average lifespan of eve players up from 7 months (or what ever it is now) higher is of immense benefit to CCP. I suppose balance and overall player happiness is one of the things that affect player subscription time. If it costs the subscription of some older forum strong individuals then I guess it works out.

EvE is special, and will continue to be. If CCP was going the mass market way then they would likely remove the death penality, shard the server, setup some NPC trader in Jita and reset POS warfare every month.
The forest is still the same, but the trees are always changings. As we get more players we also get a lower common denominator, and manythings that changed about the EvE experience relate to the changing community.

Welll, if CCP are going down the road of sacrificing everything achieved in eve to date to get as many new players opening accounts as possible, it's all going to end in tears eventuall, for all concerned...

I really don't care about getting the biggest ship, that's not what's eve about imho. Granted, gang sizes have altered and thus have had a negative impact on the game, but that's not CCP's fault, that's the player base 'doing their thing'
Also, gaining money isn't that hard tbh, it's quite possible to make isk by sitting on your arse, granted you have to work to get in said position in the first place.
Granted, a lot of the previous patches have added high skill content. But those who have spent time and worked towards it surely deserve something, I mean, spending 4 years in game with nothing to work towards seems a tad dull to me.
When T3 finally arrives I'm sure many people will be miffed thinking "OMG!!, have to wait weeks/months to play with new shiny toyz", when the reality is you don't need uber tech to have fun. All you need to do is find what you enjoy, get together with a good bunch of people and get out there to have some fun.
Eve is not about the isk, ships, tech or grind (rly), you have to see beyond that and find the beautiful game which lies within.
...or something
