Does anyone take EVE "seriously" anymore?

I'm posting here because I want to know if I'm the only character left whose name does not refer to genitals, sexual deceases or just plain bad cases of an immature mind. I'm relatively new to EVE, or I would be if you consider how amazingly bad my progression have been, but in the six months it has taken me to gain 1,1 million (Yes, MILLION!) SP, every name I've seen has been "Myfootinyourass", "TubbyBob", or "Ibangyourmomandgiveyourdadahighfive". Maybe it's because every single corporation I have joined has consisted of pirates, but even the dumbest names in WoW at least has a resemblance to the game: (i.e. Hordeslayer or Imapriest). Is this restricted to the hardcore PvP'ers in the 0.0 zones only? It seems that 'seriousness' (if you can call it that) seems to fade along with security. I somehow feel like an idiot out there in the kindergarten with the only name that doesn't have any meaning or relation to obscurity... And since I've been so wise to relentlessly stomp in the hornets' nest, feel free to flame me.

Assuming you are asking "why does everyone have a joke name?" because this game has NO RP whatsoever. The game is all about out-of-game tactics, it is hard to roleplay a fleet-fight with 100 dudes some of whom have female avatars all talking in vent calling primary etc. This game is about mechanics not RP, so as a result people make funny names because they want their character to be memorable/funny.

The only "positive" that I have been able to come up with concerning current MMO naming allowances is,it readily indicates the players I do not wish to socialize with. Cheers

Easy there kiddo, you pack too much fudge in your lunch this morning or something? Ease off the red meat. Sure ppl take it seriously (or about as seriously as you should take a video game, which isn't too much). Maybe your just in an area full of silly cats like this guy quoted above. Eve is bringing in more ppl, and that has resulted in much more piracy, or at least newb pilots who want to be pirates. But theres plenty of ppl out there, huge corps and alliances, who are more dedicated and 'serious' players.

Good points..I've argued them before will do it again. 1. It matters because there is a backstory. If you RP then it matters,if you don't then it shouldn't matter anyway...your only interested in the mechanics...right? 2.What people WANT is irrelevant.People didn't WANT a carrier nerf..people didn't WANT the new Gallente color scheme...people don't WANT the Amarr in the condition they are in. If I could have chosen the name of my chars now it whould have been. WARPOUT WARP0UT WAPROUT WAPR0UT That would totlay mess up the target calling of the hostiles when I bring my 4 frigs to the battlefield. That whay when hostiles jump me, and scream on TS that warpout are primary... half they're gang warps out and the other half spread they're damage
