Having done many level 2 and level 3 mining missions over the last few days, for the most part, I think the missions themselves are fairly well done. There is plenty of room for improvement though.
- Once special rats start appearing, there should be some red warning text. These rats aren't much different that what one would find in an exploration site of the same quality, but they're still a bit much for an unprepared pilot.
- Mining agents should NEVER hand out combat missions. Mining missions should ONLY be given out by mining and astrosurveying agents.
- There seems to be some issues where people can't turn the missions in despite having the ore.
- Missions should not flag as complete until you've mined the ore you need. The way it is right now, after you start mining you must finish the mission before downtime or you're screwed because the site won't respawn.
- The big scenic, non-mineable rocks in the lower level mining missions should be less obnoxious for barge pilots. It's annoying enough to go mine 10 rocks for 20 seconds each without having to manually pilot around a gigantic space boulder.

This is annoying in combat missions as well! especially where you have to retreive something. You pop the station or ship containing the mission items and before you've actually GOT them the mission tells you your done.
thanks for your other thoughts on mining missions, must admit ive not tried them yet, how do they stop you from just buying ore off the market ?

I've completed more than a few of these missions (most of them have been level 2). The first two I was given, I couldn't complete, although I had the ore. In those missions I used mining drones. In all subsequent missions, I didn't use mining drones, just lasers, and I had no problems.
It seems to me that the mission completion parameters are based upon mining with lasers and any ore mined with drones don't count. |
