You could always try one of these if you want to stick with ESP's and the Metallica theme. A friend of mine has one and I've played it a few times myself. It's a very good guitar.

I have an EX-351. It's my baby... have had it for almost 3 years now. The EX series past the 351 is just pure win. I got mine because it was what Hetfield used... It's a great guitar.. really smooth, good sound, holds a tune very well, lacking a little in the sustain department, but otherwise A+.

locking necks are friggen annoying to tune. If you're a casual player, don't get it, it's friggen annoying.
however, if you wanna spend 1800 bucks, get a Ibanez JEM or Ibanez JS. Friend of mine has the JEM special edition and it sounds sexy and is extremely smooth. ________________________________

Hey what now? I think you got that backwards. Once you've stretched the strings in and tuned them, you then lock them at the neck which prevents them from slipping out of tune during play. Therefore locking nuts = less tuning required. Besides, you dont need to tighten the nuts if you dont want so you're free to tune as much as you want during casual play. If you ever want to play for extended sessions or in a band, or even if you just want to really muck around with string bending and the whammy, then the locking nuts are a huge help.

That's what I figured at first, but i found it wasn't true at all. Might've been the guitar, but I doubt a Jem Spec.Ed. would have any real problems. My friend left her guitar in my room for a couple of weeks so i played quite often and I found myself constantly retuning it. Also, from what I understand, you shouldn't leave the neck unlocked for a long period of time cause of the floating trem (or something, friend explained it to me). ________________________________

Not quite. Leaving the locking nuts off wont make any difference to the tension in the neck or the trem so leaving these off will do no harm at all. What you shouldn't do is leave your guitar stringless for long periods of time. I admit that if you put the locking nuts on too early after changing your strings it becomes a pain since to retune requires you to faff about more. As long as you make sure your strings are fully stretched in before you lock them down though, then the nuts should save you time and also ensure you can go a little crazy without dropping out of tune.

And also every indy kid and their dog who thinks they're the pinacle of guitars just because Oasis used them . I have to agree with them being over-rated, but that's not saying they're bad guitars. There's just nothing that amazingly outstanding about them either, plus the shape makes them really off balance and uncumfortable to play.

Nothing has the solid, made-of-gold-feeling like a good les paul.
