Player skill can make up for a lot of imbalances in ship types and skill points.
It also keeps you alive a lot longer, but camping stations where you can deaggress and dock wont teach you these skills.
Rubbish.
Apart from a few ships (speed fits mainly) combat in this game requires very little skill.
Firstly, combat is pretty much 90% of the time 2v1 or more.
But lets assume a 1 v1 with the same ships. Vet vs Noob.
The vet players skills have 50% more damage, 50% more tank, quicker locking times, longer ranges, faster ship. So he wins.
He also will have access to better fittings, whether that is because his skills enable him to use them or because he has access to the isk to fit the better/faction items. So he wins.
Then the vet player sits smugly thinking hes an elite pvper.
You dont need quick reflex's like a fps, you dont need a huge tactical brain like in a starcraft type game, you dont need really any knowledge apart from some basics like optimal ranges. You cant really be 'skilled' at EVE pvp in the way you could be in mortal combat pvp. Two webbed battleships in a fight deteriorate into a slugfest where all you do is clack your armor/shield rep every now and then, and maybee think about chaging ammo types.
The only real skill is knowing when to get the hell out, and knowing when to stay and fight.
People start winning fights after 6 months and think they are getting better at pvp. In reality they start winning the fights because they had passivley trained up more damage/armor etc over the last 6 months.

With all due respect skunk, i find it rather amusing that a seasoned player like yourself, will bring forth the argument of eve not requiring a lot of skilltime to play successfully, when the entire skillset in eve currently takes around 30 years to max out. And let's face it, the majority of these skills ARE combat, ship or support skills.
Sure you can win fights by playing it smart and strength by numbers, but if someone comes say in a command ship with maxed skills both in firepower and tankage and support, and with just a decent t2 fit, there is no way you can beat him solo no matter how clever you are. you will simply be outmatched by skillpoints. (unless he somehow has no clue about how to play eve)

I think that the gaming experience of the new players will be lessened by being spoon fed the tips. Learning how things work in eve was rewarding when you had to do it the hard way. I suppose they could choose not to look at them. I know I haven't read one yet. Of course I have never completed the little training thingy at the beginning of the game, though i hear it's not so little anymore. lol. -- Talking in Circles is more dizzying than walking in them...

Indeed.
But I'm the type who likes to learn things through experience. One of Eve's big things is that you need to experience it first hand to learn it. The Tips of the Day may be taking this away from the game.
Even if "playing" just means chatting with people, you're learning how it's more fun to do: by having others impart their wisdom to you.
Is it more fun to read everything about fishing and then buying a bunch of gear and catching a fish; or is it better to have someone personally teach you how to fish, telling you the tricks they've learned over their years of experience as they do it?
I think learning in game is far more useful than being spoon-fed the answers. This may come from the many, many hours of having my dad go over why X+1=9 (simplified for ease of telling) rather than just say X=8, but whatever.
I treasure my blunders as a noob, such as using an EANM on a shield tanked Punisher (Shields were the thing to tank 4 years ago, dammit! Armor Reps were for avoiding repair bills).

I am going to compensate you by locking this thread. CCP frequently introduce new content for all players. The tip of the day is for every player to use and not just new players.
