Hiya, One of my buddies says it doesn't matter what type of ore you mine, it all is equally profitable when there is sufficient demand.
Is this true? (that would mean that mining in 0.9 or 1.0 space is as profitable as mining in 0.5 space)

Check the database at eve-db.com or eve.se. Look at isk per hour.

the problem with those kind of guides is that they are based on mineral prices, which fluctuate pretty much at the moment (mostly those guides or 3 months old or something) ----------------------------------------------- Watch my leet everchanging dynamic signature \o/ http://www.games-on.nl/~cu2moro/evesigphp/icon.php?blaat=.GIF |

Well, if you take the big view, then yes. Obviously, depending on the demand and supply, prices can vary and change their worth. However, that doesn't mean much, cuz it's pretty much basic economics.
The problem is that since ore like kernite is a lot tougher to find than, say, veldspar, you get more profits when selling kernite rather than veldspar.

Not at all, unless you can find someone paying 6isk for tritanium. General rule of thumb is, you make more money the closer the start of the name of the roid is to A. Veldspar being the least profitable, Bisot and Arkanor(sp) being the most. In 0.5+ space Kernite is usually the money maker out of all the choices, ymmv by region. There are a ton of ore calculators out there in which you can input your cargo space, trip time, mining skill and mining device(s) to figure out your exact hourly income.

This isn't as straightforward as it may seem. Ores that produce more valuable minerals take longer to mine. Pre-Castor some mates of mine did a calculation that showed Omber to be more profitable to mine than Kernite. The amount of ISK you could make mining the two was very close but Omber edged it out. Of course, that was a long time ago and prices have changed and ore redistribution has changed things so take that with a large grain of salt. What it does show is the numbers aren't necessarily as linear as they may appear at first glance.

I have also found that out of the >0.5 ore unrefined omber was the most profitable per load with kernite running very close. That is until I acquired my Refining IV skill than mining and refining kernite was the ore of choice.

Omber, but Scordite is SO close in value that its much easier to mine scordite.
