With my skills I get 13s and 4500m/s, which should give me a ragne of 58.5k. The actual range of the missiles is 54k, which equates to 12s and 4500m/s.
So, either the info display of the missiles is off, or the calculation is off for the ship.
Unless there's some arbitrary limit on flight time.

Did you check that range against a moving or a stationary target?
Vs rats who are moving away your range is gonna be slightly shorter than the max your skills allow as the missiles have to follow them.

The difference is because you are assuming that the missile is travelling at it's full speed for it's entire flight time. This is not the case. Missiles have to accelerate up to their full speed just like everything else, so their range is always going to be slightly shorter than flight_time*max_speed would suggest.

And they normally dont fly the direct way to a target, especially if it is moving.

And missiles are drunk, they don't fly straight!
If your target is fleeing and you are flying to your target, then your missiles look like flying for a shorter distance. But the missiles did exactly what their stats said, it's just that your missiles don't benefit from your ship's speed.
