This would solve all the sec status problems. Pirates would still have to work to up their sec status and it would take months. But currently, after a month of rat hunting in 0.1-0.4 in a cruiser... I'm still 0.06 sec status. This is ridiculous. Since there's no more chaining... why not just give us sec for every kill?

My sec rating hasn't gone up since mid-December. And yes, I do kill NPCs. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Exactly. And I kill 10-20 rats per 10 minute period. That means I get only 5% of what I should in sec status gain.

On the other hand, my sec status has gone up by 0.1 in the last day of npc hunting. It depends on what kind of npc's you kill, killing frigates and low cruisers will give you less of an increase than high cruisers or battleships will.

Dunno. But it's going to be uber lame if they re implement decay..
I vote for no positive SS decay as well as no positive Standing decay.. Ever..

my sec status has never gone up mabye cuz i dont hunt much but i will soon.. anyway ive gone from (before castor 2.4) to 1.2 then for locking someone witha -1.6 sec status and a bounty ina 0.1 it went down 0.5 each time so then i was 1.0 then i got in a frigg and tested something and shot at a non concord cop to prove a polaris wrong about concord helping cops if i shot at them. they were cladari btw. anyway my sec status hasent changed since. mabye you shoud gain it for each single rat but not as much... for each rat? but not 0.00000000002 lol

there needs to be some decay on the positive side too. Just not very much. -0.005 per day, maybe. So it will take about 20 days to drop 0.1
but it means the NPC/agent sec rewards need to be higher. If you can keep it stable for doing, say, 20 minutes of NPC hunting per day, it would help.
unfortunately, the amount of decay needed is directly effected by the amount you can reasonably expect to gain over the same period.
So take my figures with a pinch of salt. The post is about the theory, not the numbers.
needless to say, you cannot possibly put a decay in with the currently awful sec gains.
I would like them to put it all back to how it was pre-castor. But I suspect it is actually coded differently in castor, and that to go back would not be a realistic possibilty.
All I know is, at the moment I can only kill 15 more players ships in the empire before I'm banned from yulai, with no real chance of ever getting back.
The sad thing is, most of my 0.5 to -0.2 drops were from accidents that didn't cost anyone their ship (except me. thanks nimcord). I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with low sec via accidents only... .

I think it should be more drastic than the negatives. It's hard to maintain your status as "golden boy"
That said, +ss for each pirate kill didn't work well IMO. Combined with (and yes, this isn't the issue posted, but I like examples) people buying their sec status to -5.0 and then killing their way back up. I saw people go from -9's to +4 or 5 within 2 days. Course, they got down to -9 in a few days also, due to the silly way you used to take a sec-hit for every gun you fired (at least I did).
Now contrast this with the 'golden boy' idea above. While I'm not sure exactly how 'hard' it should be to restore your negative status, I'm pretty sure that once you start doing negative things, it should be hard to gain a positive status. It was confusing to me as a early n00b (vs my now "master n00b" status(tm)) that I was getting jacked by someone with a +3.5 sec rating.
Anyway, back to the system:
To make matters worse, the system isn't even consistent. You shoot a player indy, you get a sec it (which, to me at least, has seems to vary a lot, for no apparent reason). You shoot a player pirate, you'll probably get a sec hit.
Conversly, You shoot an NPC pirate, you MAY get a sec increase, and if you shoot an NPC indy, you don't get jack (beyond faction standing hits, which are easily dealt with via tutorial missions resetting faction standing).
If security is supposed to be about players, make it only about players. If it's supposed to include NPC's, then be consistent.
Consistency and Symetry. Two things I'd like to see in Eve. At the very least, I'll stop having to answer "Why does that ship look like half of it's missing or it grew a tumor" questions -- TomB: End the speed-race. 1 propulsion mod allowed, make turrets affect ship attributes like +speed/+ab speed +agil for progressivly smaller/lighter turrets, -speed/-ab speed -agil for long-range. |
