Quick question about missioning as a new character.
I'm trying to make money and missioning + salvaging seems to be the way to go with the ships and skills I have. I'm not into mining, hauling or trading so this seems like a good idea.
Still new and I'm kind of curious to see what the standard progression is when you start. How do you gain access to level 2 and 3 missions etc. You start off with level 1's and an X-type of ship. When do you progress to level 2's etc? Just looking for a timeline, quickread guide about people's normal progression path.

get L2's from around when you get standing with a corp/faction of 1.0 or so.
Cruisers are handy for L2's - try and fit for antifrig mind as thats mainly what you'll come across in L2's. -------

You progress to higher level missions by gaining standing with the NPC Corporation. Pick a corp you want to do missions for. Open Info on the corp and select the Agents tab. In there you will see a list divided into departments. That list will show you who is available to you and who is not. If you get info on a higher quality/level agent it will tell you how much standing you need to access them. As you complete missions your standing with the corp rises.
You can also train the Connections skill up (advisable) to give you a boost in standings. There are lilkewise specialized Social skills that will improve the money and standing you get from various divisions (read the skill descriptions under Social).
Here is how the various divisions breakout (think that is most of them):
Administration: 50% Kill, 50% Courier Advisory: 34% Kill, 66% Courier Archives: 5% Kill, 90% Courier, 5% Trade Astrosurveying: 40% Kill, 30% Courier, 25% Mining, 5% Trade Command: 97% Kill, 3% Courier Distribution: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Intelligence: 85% Kill, 15% Courier Internal Security: 95% Kill, 5% Courier Legal: 50% Kill, 50% Courier Manufacturing: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Marketing: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Mining: 5% Kill, 85% Courier, 10% Mining (II) Production: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Public Relations: 34% Kill, 66% Courier R&D;*: 0% Kill, 50% Courier(S), 50% Trade Security: 90% Kill, 5% Courier, 5%Trade Storage: 5% Kill, 95% Courier(L) Surveillance: 95% Kill, 5% Courier

I have had no definative answer on this question either Draegano. From what i have pieced together from different sources is that you will probably get the level 2 agent once you attain at least a 2.0 with the corporation which will happen after you have attained 2.0 with the specific agent. Or it could be as long as the time it takes you to get the 2.0 security with the corporation and faction. These, I believe will be the earliest possible points to get level 2 missions.
I have found that my agent rating and corporation rating go up approxiamtely .1 per mission and my faction has gone up a few tenths of a point per storyline mission (which are attained every 16 regular missions completed).
Another way to increase the satanding is to invest in a few of the social skills. Social level 3, Negotiation 3 (requires social 1), Connections 3 (requires Social 3). This will give you a solid boost to you effective security status with all organizations, with relatively little training time (approximately 8-10 hours - this is a very rough GUESS!!! Don't flame this statement).
Well, I hope at the least this is wrong enough to spur some conversation on this topic since the question has never really been answered in the forums. It is almost like there is a conspiracy to keep this a secrect. If someone has a link to a page that describes the secruity/standing progression as it has to do with missions please post a link.

I have agent/corp/and faction standing all above 1.5 and no lvl 2 agent are available for Slade here.

Slade,
you can see agents available to you by setting the map to show them - I'm not in front of EVE atm so can't tell you the exact settings but it's something like My Information in the section that lets you colour star maps by security rating, ownership etc.
If you are interested in working for a specific corp, pull up info on the corp in People and Places and go to the agents tab. It will show agents by type (Command, Intelligence, Storage, etc) and show which are/ are not available to you.
Finally if you want to work for a specific agent "Show Info" on them will show what corp/ faction standing you need - if it doesn't it's because they are already available. This works from the list of agents mentioned in the paragraph above or by finding them in "People and Places" or by right clicking on them in a station.
Hope that helps.

No worries here, I am fine. I have a level 1 agent with a quality of 18. The question is about the OP. No one has given a definate standing that level 2 agents become available. I am not sure about the OP but I am able to find agents when I need them. Deep in Amarr space, I have been able to find high quality level 1, 2, and 3 Minmitar agents, that all are in high security space.
The OP asked, as have many others in forum posts, about what is the EXACT standing that you need to open up level 2 agents. Your post, and the 2nd reply to the OP, have good information; but they do not answer the question.
This seems to be the problem with this question, hence in my 1st post to the OP, I stated that I do not think anyone in the game, or at least that troll the forums, really know the answer to this question.
I will state again for the benefit of the OP.
At what numerical point do level 2 agents become available and what standing really determines this (corporation or faction standing)? This is not a question about how to find agent, what agents give higher percentage of combat missions, or any other agent based quesstion that you can throw and answer for.
Again...At what levle do level 1 agents become available to the mission runner

Here is the formular to calculate what standing you need to get access to an agent:
Standing = 2 x (Level -1) + (quality x 0.05)
Level and quality is the level and quality of the agent you want to do missions for.
An example: If you want to find the standing needed to use a (lets say) Level 2, Quality -8 agent, you get: Standing = 2 x (2 - 1) + (-8 x 0.05), or Standing = 1.6
This is standing towards the agents corporation or faction (use the highest).

Thanks for the answer. Something to work for then.
I'm just doing level 1's right now in a destroyer that just snipes level 1 rats easily and I spend 10x more time salvaging than I do fighting. I want to up the difficulty level a little bit.

Not sure how well a destroyer would do in lvl 2 missions. Guess if you like living on the edge it might be ok. And im sure someone will tell you they do lvl 3's in one :P But a cruiser would be much better and a bit more forgiven if your low on skills. I don't use a destroyer for anything but a salvager thats where they really shine :) You could keep it parked in the station and take a cruiser to wtfpwn the mission mobs, then bookmark the mission area where the wrecks are and go back and salvage them with the destroyer after with 4 tractors and 4 salvagers it goes pretty fast.

Hey Draegano, I just switched from a destroyer to a cruiser and let me tell you it is so much better. Take the time to train cruiser to level 3 (maybe 4-5 hours of train time...this is a guess)

Thank You!!!! Finally got the answer. You should create a thread with that in the OP and get it stickeyed, considering how often this question is asked.

To find out what standing you need to have, open agent info for the corp your doing the mission for, go to the first lvl 2 agent on the list check his info and it tells you what standing you need with the corp to work for him.
I'm very tired this may have been said, hell, i could be replying to the wrong post for all i know
