I think many people will agree that PvP is the greatest fun in EVE.
I also think that PvP as it is now has some serious flaws: - Hard to catch targets thanks to local chat, cloaks, POS/station hugging. - Blops.. blopblopblops. - CapShip Online
Some people might like these 'flaws' and the PvP as it is now in general and this idea doesn't need to remove any of those. Instead of removing anything, I hope to introduce something totally new and mostly seperate from the current PvP field. For sure this idea could give opportunites for other aspects besides pure PvP too.
And the idea itself:
Darkspace
Darkspace is located in another dimension. All the space in EVE universe has its counterpart in Darkspace. It is a dark and gloomy place, the stars are not bright, instead they only emit faint and gloomy light. Planets are barely visible and no sign of life or techology of any kind has yet to be found from Darkspace. There are no Stations, no POSses, no Stargates.
In Darkspace space and time work very differently. It is possible to travel the great distances between star systems using your warp drive. The signals coming out of your internet spaceship are very strong and can be picked up by regular sensors easily and from great distances.
If you are in darkspace, you can be seen. If you can seen, you can be found. If you can be found you can be shot. If you can be shot, you can shoot back. If you are being shot at and you are shooting back, its great fun eh?
Entering Darkspace would require a relatively expensive mod or anything just as long as it is expensive enough to not allow people spam it too easily with alt scouts and such. Why not some other ways into darkspace too.. finding a wormhole or some such anomaly, expensive to use POS module. Entering and returning to/from darkspace should prolly be rather random, you will appear somewhere around the spot you wanted. Maybe you would need something like cyno generators or some natural 'hole' the get out from darkspace.
Main point is that it could be reallyreallysuperfun in this darkspace. Kind of an PvP arena that is not seperate from the 'real' space. No local but very easy to find & relatively easy? to catch others in Darkspace. Maybe your scanners could pick up signals from ships coming all the way from nearby Deadspace starsystems. Also in my vision there are no offensive cap ships there, maybe t2 freighters could enter and bring some serious logistical side to Darkspace too. Bigger the gang is, the slower it would move for reason x and y and thus hopefully preventing overblopping and also escorting something while in darkspace would need dedicated ships to not make the convoy too slow and easy target.
Make it dangerous. -you are easy to find
Make it useful -fast travel not detectable from 'real' space -Logistics? -getting behind enemy lines/past gate camps
Make it fun -pewpewpew when ever you want it! -new tactical/strategical dimension -Someone should come up with a superb scan system for Darkspace to make chasing people fun and something that requires player skill as much as possible.
Make it not too easy to use -Blops would move 'slowly' if wanting to stay together as a one group -Expensive.ish? -Unpredictable, where do I come out of? Using a natural (most common?) phenomenon to get out of Darkspace would land you to some random system inside the current constellation. Using POS modules, DScyno gens or such would bring accuracy and a very large bill.
OR
something like that. Basically Arena like area. Connected to 'real' space. Lots of solo / small gang PVP. no Blops. no gates. no way to make money except from loot. The old system is still there pretty much intact but everyone also has the opportunity to go after some easy to find shootyshooty..
Just a vague idea here, but one I feel could have some potential if some balancing and feature genius would give it some loving.
