But I require your expertise :)
My PC that I put together 3 years ago is on its way out (and cant play premium Eve :(..... excuses for a new computer ftw), so I have decided to get a DX10 pc to last me another few years. Primarily this pc will be used for Eve, with a small amount of video editing and general shenanigans.
So opinions please, also if anyone spots a component thats not really compatible then please shout (I'm a big noob):
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz Socket 775 4MB Cache 1333MHz FSB Retail Boxed Processor
ASUS P5K AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket 775 eSATA 8channel Audio ATX Motherboard (I skimped a bit on price of this, any problems?)
Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics Card OEM
Samsung SH-S202J 20X DVD1RW /DL/RAM IDE Int Black Bare Drive - OEM
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM
Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) E.P.P. Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty
Startech LP4 To 6 Pin PCI Express Video - Card Power Adapter
Acer AL2016WB TFT 20" 1680 x 1050 300 cd/m2 800:1 5 ms 16:9 VGA black/silver
Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Mid Tower Case - With 500W EarthWatts PSU (Anyone tried this case? I currently use an arctic cooling case which I'm very please with, but its a bit snug and am worried about the graphics card fitting.)
Any assistance or general comfort that the above would work will be much appreciated!
Thanks

Only a couple of things i would suggest:
Dont skimp on motherboard as this will give you a solid foundation and future upgrade options - have a look at X38/X48 chipsets
Also have a look at the new 8800GTS 512MB, these run cooler, quieter and faster (Very close to 8800Ultra performance)
With regard to case inc. PSU, I always prefer to get the best PSU within my budget - Have a look at PC Power and Cooling PSUs...arguably the best on the market. (Multi rails are bad as are modular PSUs) .

Make sure it's the new GTS.
If it's not, then get a 8800 GT instead, it's faster.

I'd get an e6750 processor and overclock it. No 100% guarantee it will work at e6850 (or higher levels) but I have yet to see anyone who has failed to get it to do that. The e6750 is a very good overclocker. Save your self some cash.
You need 2* (see below) Startech LP4 To 6 Pin PCI Express Video - Card Power Adapter for an 8800GTX (don't know about the other Nvidia cards). At least my eVGA 8800GTX takes two power inputs from the PSU.
*- If the PSU that comes with that case is this one then it looks like it has 2 PCI-E connectors built in and looks to be a good PSU. That said it is not certified for SLI. If you never plan on doing SLI then no biggie. If you do then it may be an issue for you.

Where do you all get this "faster" from?
Tom's Hardware 8800GT review
Make no mistake for the money the 8800GT seems excellent. Still not faster though. And frankly the GTS looks way behind.

Simple. The 8800 GT is based on a new manufacturing process. The 8800 GTX runs a lot hotter.
Also, the current 8800GT's overclock a huge ton better than the 8800 GTX due to that, and also due to the fact that they use a newer tech...
In stock 8800 GTX is faster, also not "quite a bit" faster, more like "slightly faster". If you try to OC both, the 8800 GT will be just as fast/faster than the GTX for a lot less money.

Just to clarify the confusion with graphics card performance:
There are two chips that Nvidia use on their 8800 range
G80 - the original (cards came with 320/640/768MB ram due to 384bit bus)
G92 - the new (cards come with 256/512/1024MB ram due to 256bit bus)
Currently the performance of each card from low to high is:
8800 GTS 320 (G80) 8800 GTS 640 (G80) 8800 GTX 768 (G80) 8800 GT 512 (G92) 8800 GTS 512 (G92) 8800 Ultra 768 (G80)
The G92 cards use a smaller die therefore less power and less heat

Vastly superior choices if you can afford them. Good motherboards are essential for overclocking and I would not recommend using a psu that comes with a case as they tend to be cheap pieces of crap that explode on you. |

This is the new GTS, it is 512MB. Not 320 or 640 like the older ones.

Excellent thank you. Last question for the moment, im also going to be getting vista premium probably (yes I know, boo/hiss etc), with one disc are you able to install onto 2 computers, I presume that the license is to me, not the machine?

bad assumption. Vista is licensed to the machine. Dont get vista! XP is still available until June. Let a few more service packs come out before you install that steaming hunk of junk known as Vista. :)
