Wooow... the last time I saw that was the last time I used my poor GeForce 3. But that was because of overclocking.. a lot.. and maybe a voltage mod. Maybe.

I'd take a serious second look at your videocard. Update card drivers, check for voltage irregularities, check the card itself, etc etc.

hmm you check your temps playing eve? card could be overheating and artifacting or whatever that is  . Update your video drivers, but i would check your gpu temps firstm if they arent bad try a new driver. Check other games see if you have problems, worst case your video card is fried or frying.

However, since patch this kind of thing has been happening to me on a regular basis. Classic client, cool gpu.

And I had just logged in (and started my comp up) so I doubt it was overheated. Also I ended up staring at that screen as (apparently) I was overtaken by 3 inties and slaughtered

It only takes a couple of seconds to overheat a video card (yes they run that hot) as for what to do about it....
See if you can get hold of a test utility something like 3dmark, something that will push your vid card hard stress testing it,that should show up any problems with the card itself, update the drivers before doing anything else though.
Depending on which laptop you have you may be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer (your only option tbh as most laptops use a bespoke card made to fit the machine it's in) it aint gonna be cheap !!

That what happened to my old card and i bought a new one. Already replaced the Heat sinks on it once so didn't wanted to do it again so got a faster one.
