I just recently installed Vista Ultimate from Xp:SP2. My FPS are aweful, even on classic so much that im having to reinstall Xp and dual boot. My question is,as my hardware is kinda getting on abit, and there are no Vista specific drivers from the manufacturers themselves will my system not be running as fast?
Currently all hardware is accounted for and Vista has installed its own drivers, but I suspect these are `generic` ones, would they still have the same performance as the manufacturers ones?
Im chatting about my motherboard drivers btw.

In general, it's always better to go with the manufacturers driver; graphics, mainboard and such.
And upgrading an operating system to a newer one is sometimes not the most effiecent way to go if you want stability and speed. Better to do a new install and keep the old OS in a dual-boot config or get rid of the old one completely.

Completely disagree with above statement. Most card manufacturers only publish new custom drivers very rarely and infrequently. However, both nVIDIA and ATI release new drivers around the clock that fix specific game issues amongst other things. Unless you are looking for very specific functionality that only exists with the card manufacturer's drivers there is no reason at all to not use the latest drivers from ATI/nVIDIA. All card manufacturer's drivers are based on these original nVIDIA/ATI drivers to begin with.

Maybe you missunderstood me or vice versa; but that's not important, really...
Operating Systems (I can only speak for Microsoft Windows-series, that's the only ones I got any experience from working with) usually supply only the basics in drivers, and - for motherboards, NIC's, soundcards, graphics, any component with a driver of its own - usually benefit from using the manufacturers latest driver.
Maybe we just have different opinions, but that's fine by be.
