I wholeheartedly concur and I'm not even a pirate. You shouldn't be able to tell if there are ships in other systems. Firstly, it's a realism problem - The sensors on these spaceships have a maximum range that doesn't reach between systems. If you type in a bunch of 9's into the scanner's range box and scan, it will revert to a large number beginning with a 2 (not sure on the actual number, sorry), which is the maximum range. Secondly, it's a balance issue - People in 0.0 space can see where each other are and go to the place where other ships are concentrated in order to make a kill without having to actually track down prey or learn off the trade routes.
An afternote to this is thatyou should not be able to see where your corpmates are in space with this either - This does more harm than good since if you're in a corp you can always ask on the corp channel, so it has very few uses, and if there is a spy in the corp, that corp that declared war on yours knows exactly what system all of you are all the time.

I agree. Its the age of the blob war, whoever has the biggest blob, wins. On the rare occasion both blobs are equal, sometimes a fight breaks out and blob war turns to lag war.

Perhaps such info should be bought from the local corps instead of being free. The corporations that are based in their own systems could pass on such infomation.
Also most corps have friendly corps that could also pass on their info too.
As an extra note, it's too hard to track people down at the moment unless you have lots of contacts with agents.
The way it should work with finding either numbers of people or specific individuals should be in empire space only, that way you can always hide in the wild lands.
Being a bounty hunter must really suck, I tried it with an alt and found it to be really bad, 10 months ago, It still seems to be the same.

I'd go along w/ this for all 0.0. I don't agree w/ gettin rid of the local channel list, however.

Edited by: cashman on 13/03/2004 18:21:40 Yup. Also remove number of people online, localchat. Then everyone can drift around in 0.0 without having the slightest idea where everyone else.
Bad idea.

Keep the local chat channel open for anyone who wants to chat in local, but plz remove the list of players who are in local, space should be cold and desolate, if you enter into a system and see x amount of players from another corp that is where the stand-off occurs, both party`s waiting till they have sufficient numbers to hold a gate
this works both ways, a small party of maybe 2 battleships is holding a gate in a 0.0 passage, these to guys will be able to gank away most single players and earn a living that way,
but the same to players will get the fright of their lives should a 5 strong fleet of battleships warp in ontop of them,
either way there is no way of knowing what lies ahead or is creeping up behind you :)
0.0 space should have no map functions as it is technically uninhabited space, empire space is different and map functions should be preasant for that area of space

Extremely bad idea.
That would give a definate advantage to any pirate or intruder who enter into alliance controled space.
You would have to gank anyone who you did not know by name personally because by the time you waste checking their info to see if they are in your alliance or having a NAP with their alliance, the pirate or intruder will allready have time to lock and jam you or to warp away.
Also when you want to chase these people down, the map helps you to guess which system they jumped to and many of them just log off already to try and hide that fact.
It would cut down on our fun, like scrambling to meet an enemy and knowing who is in the system to see if they wanted to join in with us mining or for conversation or other activities.
It works just fine so just learn a better way to gain your advantage rather than letting CCP do it for you.

don't think it'd be a bad idea to have map functions "turned off" in 0.0, ie. number of pilots in space/docked active. but while in empire these functions should be available to scan into the outer reaches of the eve universe. it would require corps to work together more. corps would need atleast 1 member in an empire system as there intelligence agent telling them where to go/where not to go.

I think both ideas are just horrid.
I use the 'pilots in space' comand to plot out where I will NPC hunt or mine for a few hours (get more then 3-4 players after NPCs in an area and it gets really crowded). If I have fly around blind then I will spend alot less time to fight/mine and more time warping around. Traveling = not fun.
The local chat is fine as is. I am very sorry that you can not enter a system and PK every single miner/NPC hunter in stealth mode. Local is my defensive against PKers.

The map data is meant to be distributed by Concord am i correct? Then surely this information should be freely available within their jurisdiction. But outwith it, there would be no information and so no map.
As for those who moan about needing it to hold alliance territory. Forgive me but if you want to hold space then build up a network. Post scouts at gates to watch for incoming players. These scouts relay information to attack fleets further back. Build up a proper military structure. If a player can't see where your ganking fleets are then they can't avoid them can they?

would be great,
removing pilots in space/ ships & pods killed in non empire space
just some idea: make it possible for alliances to install sensor arrays in systems making corp/alliance members able to still view pilots in space and stuff in those systems. |

I agree
The current map is horribly carebeared. It's not realistic in a sense that it decreases immersion level in the game. It creates blob wars. It discourages random PvP. It makes scouting almost useless. If people want to know who's where, they should work for that information.

Please remove map tracking in 0.0
If you do that I will head out there to have a little fun again, take 2 steps off the beaten path and noone will ever bother you again as noone will have the stamina to fly through all the possibly occupied systems :)
