As a former WoW player I have to say I really like EVE. Some other posters have hit on it very accurately as to why I like EVE.
1) Training System. I can advance my character even though I'm not logged on, and that is awesome. Its a bit of a double edged sword however in the fact that there is just no real quick way to get to the skill level you really want/need to enable another skill you want/need. But I don't think I'd want that changed, it cuts down on "twinking". Sure you can equip a newer character with the best items but they're only flying a frigate until they train up the frigate skill to a certain level and then the new ship class skill. It doesn't take long to get into a better ship but you're not going to have a week old character in a Battle Cruiser or Hulk.
2) Sandbox approach. There's missions, ratting, salvage, mining, bounty hunting, PVP, and you can do whatever you like. You're not even restricted to one thing by your profession either. You can train the skills you want and if you're willing to do the time your character can do very well at any of them.
3) Security rating. This is the best approach I've seen so far to handling the PVE vs. PVP issue and Risk vs. Reward. You can play it safe by staying in high sec areas and still earn some decent money mining, ratting, etc. or you can go to low sec or 0.0 space and take the bigger risks for the bigger payoff.
4) The "world" I think CCP has done an awesome job in giving EVE that feeling of vastness that space should have. The one thing that they are missing is the world outside the Pod and they are working on this. It was this very thing that lead me to avoid trying the game earlier. I thought "You can never leave your ship? That's gonna suck." and admittedly I was wrong. It isn't even an issue since there is so much to do and adding the ambulatory content will only give a game with good depth even more. Just don't make the content "kiddie" is all I ask in regards to that. There should be "exotic" clubs in stations and sectors where its appropriate. Low sec or pirate sectors should have seedy areas in stations along with the "righer" areas. No that isn't a request for "boobies in space" but rather a request for a world with depth with both the good an the bad of society.
5) Casual friendly game. If I don't log on I'm not worried that my character advancement will falter and fall behind. I can go on vacation and just set a skill that is going to take a wile to train and come back to its completion. I only have to worry about my ISK and that can be earned in many ways. Not only that but if I decide I ant to fly an Interceptor as my main ship its all good, I don't need to grind out a Titan to be competitive, have fun, or have a role in a Corp.
So as a former WoW player I certainly do NOT want EVE to be more like WoW, I've found a game I like better than WoW (I played it for almost 3 years) and I like it for what it is and don't want to change it in any way.
