Here's the story till now -
When the new patch was released I upgraded to the premium client and wasn't terribly happy with performance. I wanted to try the original client, so I unchecked premium graphics in-game and restarted the game. Ever since then if I do not use '/end /LUA:OFF' in my exe file the game will sit minimized in my taskbar and is never capable of being opened. I have to right click and close it and add '/end /LUA:OFF' to get the game to run properly. I never had to do this in the past.
Then last week Kaspersky released an update for their Internet Security software that somehow caused EVE to hang on 'Entering game'. The fixed the problem and I no longer had any issues.
As of yesterday I am now hanging on 'Entering game' very regularly. Deleting the machonet folder in my cache fixes this problem and allows me to log in, but I must do it nearly every time I want to log into the game.
What's the problem here?
Thanks in advance for the help!
It turns out it wasn't my machonet folder causing the problem... it's the font folder.
Deleting it fixes hanging up upon entering the game with the few accounts that get stuck on 'Entering game as...' (not all my accounts are hanging on login.)

I really really hopes this works because I'm ready to go berserk about this very issue...where is the fonts folder located (i.e. where in hardrive? I cant find it anywhere) Thanks...

Your cache folder should be located in your EVE folder. Find your EVE directory, then find your cache folder... in it there will be a folder named 'fonts'. Deleting it worked for me. I went through several experiments to test this out... and it has worked repeatedly.
Note - I believe some installs of EVE can be made where your EVE folder will be located elsewhere. You will know the proper folder named 'cache' when you find the following folders in it -
Browser Fonts MachoNet Map Pictures settings Shader Temp Texture
and a file named 'prefs'
Good luck!

This seems to work for me. God knows why, the folder is empty.

Thanks for advice...for some reason I still cant find my EVE\cache folder, and I'm looking all over for it; can you give more detailed info about where it might be located?

The default directory will be C:/Program Files/CCP/EVE
Other than that I'm not sure what else to tell you... unless you installed on another partition... and in that case I hope you remember where you installed.

I have looked in every folder I can think of, as well as typing in the path directly...
I do not have a cache folder. Im gonna try reinstalling and see if that helps.

Hey guys - I couldnt find those folders either, but someone finally helped me out:
Documents & Settings > [user name] > Local Settings > Application Data > EVE.
Also remember that "Local Settings" is a hidden file by default, you may need to chose "show hidden files" in folder options (I think in advanced tab.)
Hope that help...unfortunately for me it didn't; I deleted the "fonts" file and then all of the cache files, but I still cant get past "entering game as..." Today I have the grim choice of reformatting my OS or getting a new pc, because in addition to this problem, the pc now crash-restarts at random. Thanks CCP!

i noticed that the game crashes because it cannot connect with the server. i have the same problem when loading videos on youtube (they take about 5 minutes to start loading). when this problem first appeared i noticed that when i disable the web-antivirus module from kaspersky the videos loaded with no problems, so i did the same here, and it worked fine. it's probably the same problem mentioned on this forum about the game port. i will try it later..

I thought I had this problem solved, however it seems to be back again :(
Tried deleting the Fonts folder but that made no difference :(
I seem to be able to log in on all my accounts in the morning, but late afternoon/evening only one of my accounts works (one specific account, don't mean one at a time)

OK, I've just solved the problem for my own account.
I ran log server and the game was always hanging when trying to access Vivox (ie Eve Voice). I'm not sure if this is because I have audio disabled, or if it's a problem with Eve Voice itself.
==== To solve the problem, login, then hit 'Escape' on the character selection screen, the audio tab will then allow you to disable Eve Voice. ====
As I said, this has solved the problem for me, it might help for someone else as well
