Edited by: Ceanthar Cerbera on 15/12/2007 09:21:44 Edited by: Ceanthar Cerbera on 15/12/2007 09:18:41 Just wanted to see if others are having this problem also. I found last night that Eve is using ALOT(!) of my page file. Its fine right after ive started the game but after doing a couple of jumps trough some systems the fps goes down and the computer starts becoming sluggish, constantly accessing the hdd. A look in windows "Task Manager" and "Processes" it says eve is using around 400mb of ram but checking the "Performance" it tells me the system is using 1-1.6 gb of page file. Not running any other applications using the ram I conclude its eve eating the resources. Running two clients is impossible while I used to be able to run two clients without problem and 3 with a bit of struggle. I only have 1gb of ram and basically all (5mb unused) of it gets used when Im running eve meaning i have more than 500mb reading from hdd pagefile..
Turning the client off is the only way to get the system memory back but it takes a very long time to purge and it also gives me a error message saying it(eve .exe) couldnt access the memory.
Anyone else having problems like this? Im reading alot of people having problem docking and crashing etc. Have you checked your system resources during this? Might it be that eve just ate all your system memory? I have noticed that my problem occurs after a number of session changes. Also when flying trough systems it worked but when I docked it took a very very long time to do that session change (wich if different from space).
System is x2 4200+, 1gb ram, x1650xt. Omega drivers, XP. Premium graphics and played in window mode. Shadow setting is off and HDR likewise. Ive tried running the cache in low, normal, high and off. Doesnt seem to make much difference. My main concern is the fact that eve shows as using 400mb memory at most but the performance is showing as system memory being used up completely. In fact after a while the performance window show as using 1.4gb of memory while eve itself shows as using 75mb wich is highly unusual..
edit: btw running two clients ends up with the system using over 1.7gb of system memory almost twice my physical memory! Fps during that time is below 1... ----------------------------------------- For the liberation and safety of the Matari people! |

Edited by: Muscaat on 17/12/2007 13:38:04 It's not a bug, it's a feature...
The new client (Premium at least) by default takes extreme amounts of memory to cache all the new shinyness (even with premium content turned off). There's either an option to change it in the Options menu somewhere (if you have Premium enabled), or a prefs.ini line to add (if not). I can't remember exactly but I think it's "cacheMemorySize=0".
Edit: Hmm, should have read your post...
Even with this setting, Eve swallows up memory like a memory-swallowing thing. Linux doesn't play nice when it has to swap constantly... lots of reboots...

Also have that "Can't write blabla in blabla" sometimes when I close the client.
In fact, once in awhile when I quit, the client almost freezes for 15 seconds or so and that error pops (not everytimes). Didn't cared much until my windows popped the message that my C drive was low on space. Then I saw that I had like 20Gb of Eveexe.exe or something like that in my Local Settings\temp.
Everytimes that freeze happens, it writes a 400Mb to 600Mb file in my temp. The client freezing is the result of writing this file. When it's done, the client finally quits and everything gets back to normal on my comp.

nice(eh?) to see another person getting the same message. I just hope its not harmful to the system, ie the RAM. It seems obvious that something is wrong with the way Eve access and use the memory. Ive produced a logfile but it cant be uploaded via the bugreport(more than 2mb)... Maybe enough information about the problem is known by now for CCP to fix it. ----------------------------------------- For the liberation and safety of the Matari people! |

I had this problem also til I bought 2 GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM and now I can run 2-3 premium content programs, EVEmon, EFT and firefox. If you don't wanna fork out try set your cache settings in the settings to low for now but it was $120 well spent.

What's happening to me (sometimes like I said) is already with 2GB of Crucial ballistik but I'll have to say that YES... well spent money. ------ This sig space is Read-only ! omgalink - Online Skillsheet |

As far as the client crashing on exit I was having this problem also til eventually the game wouldn't boot at all. I found out that deleting the settings file in your cache folder fixes all this. Now I just make a working backup of this folder and if it starts crashing overwriting the folder with backup fixes it. I think it comes about from running more than one client.

Something to keep in mind, and it would be good to get some numbers from CCP on the memory usage settings, is that WinNT (NT/XP/Vista etc) will never use a more page than your physical RAM plus 12 megs, no matter how large you set the file size(s). For those interested in the guts of that, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/servicedesks/webcasts/en/wc072001/wct072001.asp
So if you have numbers that indicate a number larger than this, something bad is going on. Lots of other things are also using that VM, so better to err on the side of less eve cache than more. Something is amiss with that extreme setting. I have four gigs on this machine and extreme started thrashing the drive and making the client go sticky.
