I now go to play eve and it doesn't load. Splash screen pops up, then goes away. Icon is in the tray; task manager shows it taking up 30% of my cpu and 60 megs of ram, but it never loads up....tryed installing the client again...nothing. Help would be appreciated.

My first problem was my router, a d link 504 , getting on a bit I know, just swapped it for the one the ISP supplied.
Second was the graphics card a Radeon ATI 9600 xt would not load, seems the 3d rendering engine is missing. A cheap nvidia 7300gt cured the problem

I have the same problem with the same graphics card.
Surely there must be a workaround that doesn't involve me changing my graphics card which insidentally worked a few days ago. however due to other crap on my computer i had to reload the eve client and now it doesn't work :(
help would be appreciated

I had the same issue, and managed to fix it.
I noticed that when I tried to run eve, it just had the icon in the taskbar and that was it.
I ran the exefile.exe executable its self and seen the console output, it was complaining about D3D accelleration not being available, when it clearly was. I resolved it by deleting perfs.ini from the Local Settings\CCP\ folder, which made it work fine
Might be because it tried to use an invalid graphics adapter or something
