I like curvy brass ships and I like pewpew, so naturally I went straight for Amarr. I'm having a problem making the most of my lasers, though, and am hopelessly lost in a forest of turrets and crystals and not a great grasp of what all the numbers mean.
You'd think that lasers would be great long-range weapons, on account of being lasers, but my Punisher has what could only be called a pathetic range of 5km, fitted with three Medium Pulse Laser Is with Ultraviolet S crystals. I do decent damage against mission frigs once I get into range, but they pound me for about 7-8km before I get into range to fire, and that makes me sad.
I want to make the most of beam weapons, so could any experienced Amarr pilots please give me a hand? Just bear in mind, noob, so money is a factor for me. If the very bestest laser setup involves millions of ISK, I'd still like to know about it, but it won't be something I can actually implement in the near future.

If you are asking which is better for a punisher then i can't answer that question but the general rule for lasers is pulse > beams for DPS but you also need to consider the lack of damage you do to your opponent with pulses while you try to get in range. I personally like beams and run 8 x tachyons on my Abaddon battleship which works a treat.

pulses == mid to short beams == long range
crystals then alter that range
multifrequencys == short, high damage radio == long, low damage
So for missioning you might wanna try something like medium beams with short standard crystals maybe to give decent range and damage.
Dont forget to train your cap skills as thats the thing that really helps on laser ships.

Ok train up sharpshooter and get t2 beams with t2 ammo,it doesnt last forever but trust me the dps boost is awesome...And once youve maxed out your punisher you should be able to fit out a harbinger...If you still like sniping fit out accordingly...Rinse and repeat.
Oh btw heres a list.
multifrequency-your high dps shortrange ammo. x-ray-high dps(lower then multifrequency)but takes less cap. microwave-longrange low dps. ultraviolet-longrange low dps low cap use. infrared-above average range, below average damage. standerd-medium range medium damage i believe it gives a cap bonus aswell. Radio, ultra low dps,one damage type longest range.
Basically with t1 ammo i usually carry multifreq, ultraviolet and radio.
