Edited by: Vagenbrae on 18/12/2007 01:46:33 I've been carebearing since I started playing the game and am looking to mix it up with some PvP. I have no PvP experience and I know there are corps out there who teach PvP Academies and whatnot. What I was wondering is if I should work on some skills first or if my skills are good enough to start learning. Below are the limited userid and API key that you can plug into EveMon to see my skills. According to the Eve website here, the limited key gives no access to private account info, so it's safe to share.

I think you can be ready for PVP whenever you want to.. I started pvping and my char is a few months old, yet my friend is pvp'ing just as well as I am (he actually does more dmg than me sometimes, lol) and his character is brand new.

i did not check your skill but the earlier the better... there are some corps which will help you even with your skills to tell you what you need and what you can skill little later.
and its better to do the rly noobish mistakes in cheap ships ( i had my mwd running with zero speed for example while ).
and even if you are "only" the tackler in the t1 frig you will learn just by being in the gang. you gather experience which will help you to be safer once you got the skills for bigger ships.
and generally prefer flying cheaper ships with the skills above flying around in a bs with **** skills.
flying the smaller ship classes at the start even if it is just the t1 frig helps you to not do stupid stunts with the more expensive t2 ships/equip later.
and even a t1 ship with a quite new pilot can make the difference. its not like you are useless and whiped out by one stroke just because you started later with eve.
i started with around 3.5-4mil sp to do pvp and i can tell you that it helps to do the mistakes early. yet i am still in the progress and far away from being a good pvper. and since t1 frigs or cruisers are peanuts for most corps and alliances it is not a big investment for them.
have fun in eve o/

Yeah, I read an article in EON magazine about Agony's PvP University and was looking at that was well. Haven't decided though. Right now, just trying to figure out the best path.

Edited by: Kaalen on 18/12/2007 02:20:43 You can PvP right off the bat if you started out with a combat based character, grab a cheap, tech 1 fitted frigate with some electronic warfare modules and a handful of friends with the same sort of ships and go out and see what you can find. Good luck!

There's pretty much no such thing as too soon to start, so without looking at your skills: Yes, come see us.
No more classes this side of New Years, but here's a link to the most recent enrollment thread for PvP Basic to give you an idea of the minimum skills for the class. Linkage

Thanks I'll check it out. Also, is there more than one level of training, or just PVP Basic in Agony? |

There are more, with a couple of new classes being introduced early next year as well.

You should start learning from day 1, in my opinion. Better to learn while training up your character than to wait.

3 days. I started pvping at 3 days old. And we're talking back when the starting SP for new characters was 60,000 not around a million.

You should start by looking for a balanced PVP game, I highly recommend first person shooters or real-time strategy games.

Edited by: cal nereus on 18/12/2007 06:03:44 Definitely check out Eve University. They teach PvP, in addition to lots of other stuff, and they're pretty good at it.
Goonfleet is famous for introducing players to 0.0 as soon as possible, and through the adversity those players gain intimate knowledge of how 0.0 PvP works very early. As long as you can pilot a tech-1 frigate, and use a warp disruptor, you're useful.
My own alliance places less emphasis on your skill points and skills, and more emphasis on your attitude, personal goals, personality, maturity, etc. Most of our corps do have skill requirements, but they're usually along the lines of: can you fit a ship for PvP? Literally anyone and everyone can gain more skill points, but there some things that can't be trained. We look for those qualities.
Agony's PvP University is a really great place for teaching PvP, and their basic skill requirements are a good measurement for whether or not you can start PvPing. Basically, see if you can fit all of the following modifications: Microwarpdrive, Warp Scrambler/Disruptor, Stasis Webifier, Capacitor Booster, Energy Neutralizer, Nosferatu, Target Painter, Tracking Disruptor, Remote Sensor Dampener, Remote Armor Repairer, Shield Transporter, Energy Transfer Array.
The training for these aforementioned modules doesn't take long, at least the frigate-sized versions, and with them you can be useful in PvP. In fact, you don't even need most of those. Just get a MWD, a warp disruptor, a stasis webifier, and go tackle something. ---

To summarize this, you need a gang to PVP with, not as much skills.

From what I know EVE is purely a PvP game. Unless you run missions or mine in empire, which is REALLY boring.

EVE is a sandbox game, not a PvP game. If it were a PvP game, 80% of the users wouldn't be sitting in Empire all day. _________________ I design icons. Inhabitor and Owner of the Cozy RoidÖ, Hjoramold. |

Skilling all depends on where you intend to PvP.
If your goin for low sec pvp you want to skill up for a heavy tank etc... for up close and personal combt.
If your heading for 0.0 you will need to skill for ranged combat so MWD and such are required.
Skilling 0.0 style then using those fits in low sec gets you wasted tme and tie again and vice versa high tank short range combat doesnt work too well in 0.0 where its all fast moving sniper ships.
If i was you i would head for real pvp the up close and personal stuff, its far more fun. Large scale fleets with mwd fits is boring warfare.

Aranbal doesnt seem to know much about pvp and warfare...
Be versatile. No good being in an up close and personal ship when someone tries to snipe you.
And look for a pvp corp to join if you can. Pirate / anti pirate is the obvious way to go if you dont feel ready for the chaos of 0.0

There are many different sorts of PvP in Eve. And you're ready already for quite a few of them.
PvPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP is the most popoular. Start with that one.
I suggest being on the side with most P's.

Instead of posting your api key you might just want to use other better accessible tools like Skills showroom . |
