The Caldari empire is, according with the storyline, the smalest one. If so, why more than 50% of the players are from the Caldari race?
Why more than 50% ships in Space are Caldari?
Perhaps "we" are gaining the upper hand, and will soon rule you all MUAHAHAHAHAHA

Amarr look like constipated old men.
Gallante look, dare I say, monosexual.
It's kind of obvious why Caldari and Minmatar populate the galaxy.

When you look at the map, the Caldari sovereignty has less total systems then other empires. I think that's what they mean by having the smallest empire

In the storyline it says that the Amarr Navy has more ships than all other empire navies have together.. BUT, most of the ships became long time ago obsolete!
As for the Caldari Navy, since they are a little empire with little fleet, they need superior ships (aka Hi-TECH).
Also the reason why most ppl choose Caldari to play is because the fighter nature appeals to the PvPers who seem to be in the majority (at least on the forums)

People pick Caldari because it's the quickest route to EW. |

I would say the reason that most players choose Caldari is the description you get on them. Doesn't matter if in-game, in the manual, or here on the webpage, the Amarr are displayed as religious zealots flying overgrown tin cans, the Gallenteans as French (and as we all know thanks to Al Bundy, "It's wrong to be French"), and the Minmatar are slaves flying heaps of trash held together by bubble gum and duct tape.
Doh.
The Caldari are depicted as wealthy corporation men, handling highly advanced technical monstrosities.
I have to say I also chose Caldari because of the description. Would I have to rebuild my character now, or be able to choose a new race, it would most likely be Amarr, maybe Gallente. But thanks to EVEs openness, I can still fly any ship I like (and I have to say I just love Amarr ships). Thanks CCP :-)

If you look at user population concentrations, Gallente has the most people, followed by Caldari, then Amarr and Minmatar.
In terms of ships, the largest numbers of indies is Amarr Bestower, the largest number of cruisers is the Gallente Thorax, and the largest number of battleships is the Amarr Apocalypse.
