@OP: You're right, all this hatred going on is sickening. Nowadays you will be hard pressed not of find a thread where someone claims "hey, this are just a bunch of pixels, RL > intarweb pixel spaceship".
Not that all this bad blood is here for nothing. People feel betrayed, abused and what not. And sometimes rightly so... because if you want rule this game you must be the most ruthless bastard around . This is - by design - a feature of Eve, CCP wanted the Eve world to be harsh, cruel place. But this got out of hand quite a long time ago.
