The whole point in eve is pretty close to the goals one has in real life and this is why we all love the game. It is simple and I am surprised that this has not already been said (apologies if it has) but both eve and life are about maximising the happy times and minimizing the unhappy times.
Nobody likes being evicted, it is not pleasent to know u dont have the cash to pay your mortgage and it sure aint pleasent to find a blob in your system about to evict u back to jita.
It is simple and there are various ways of pursuing these goals but the reason we do it remains the same: maximise fun, minimize omfg noooooo not another podding.
The only difference between the events in eve and the events in real life are that the events in eve are not real and therefore most dont care as much about the **** that happens in eve compared to actual real life pain and strife or joy and happinesses that happen in the real world.

In response to the original posting, myself I do this as a relese, yes, you could say that most MMORPG's are lader based and to be honest I realy hate those. You have to be realy into the specifics of the game itself before you really start enjoying it. With EVE the concept is so open ended and deep in nature that the specifics aren't really necesary.
Myself I come from a military background (helping others who can't help themselves), and not suprisingly I found a corporation that has allot of like minded people. Even if for the most part we do our things individualy, the comeradship is enough to get one through.
Wining is not the objective for allot of people. It's the idea that you can log in, blow off some steam and generaly have a good time without having to wory about the game becoming boring anytime in the future, there is no hacking at an endless NPC in order to get good enough to atualy do something, you are left with limitless choices of how to get where you want to go, and yes the normal support sysems in most MMPORPG's are not there, simply becasue the players take care of that themselves.
I know i will be around for a long time, even if it's only to relax for a couple of hours.

Interesting analysis, I agree EVE can't be won because everyones objectives and motivations vary. However
For a Goon thread I am staggered, I was expecting spam or at least a "bob poo poo head tick-tock ding dong" type of post.

The reason Goonfleet has been such a good match for my personal goals is, it lets me do a bit of everything in my own time. Some days I get to go on strategic ops when I have the time. Other times, I can go and manage my goods to make my riches. The next day I can go on small gang PvP. It's the benefit of having a large enough alliance to support the casual and hard core player.
So my goals change on a daily basis depending on how much time I have to commit that day to playing, and I would not be as happy in a corp dedicated to any one type of play. We play to have fun, and sometimes having fun is staying awake all night trying to log back in to JV1V to kill a baby titan just listening/chatting on TS.
