sometimes when u activate ur mining lasers the npc's spawn... if they dont spawn you can mine a bit, about 10min-20min...

It seems to be at random. Sometimes i can mine for hours, somtimes NPC spawn just when i hit the Miner :-)
Even at hidden roid/belts.
I hope this will not stay like that. If your corpmates don't connect at the same time as you do, you'll be stucked doing agent missions...
NPC Pirates seem to have learned the Divination skill

yeah easy. set up a bookmark to the roid you want at every field and bookmark a safe area to leave a can for pickup and deposits. if npcs spawn move to the next bookmarked roid. sometimes it seems they chase me but they can't be everywhere.

p.s. just get a bs, slap on a few guns and a couple mining lasers and stock up on some harvesters. Kill the spawns and mine the ores, two for one.

It seems an apoc with 4 warp stabs seems to do well. Also fill drone bay with ogres and not harvs if mining in 0.0. Pop on a MWD or 2 incase of a web and boom. They cant get you. If for some reason its a very large spawn and u do get pinned down. Thats what the ogres are for.

It's still pretty easy. Do as the man says, setting up bookmarks to a roid in each belt.
I find it useful to take a pen and paper and note what the group of priates is in each belt as you visit them, you don't tend to get duplicate groups in a system unless it has loads of belts. Once you've been to all the belts you know what groups of pirates you have and where they currently are.
Find a clear belt and mine. When the pirates warp in. Look at your list and find the belt they've come from. Warp there. If there are pirates there, again look at your list and warp to the belt they've come from. I can usually get 10-15 miuntes in each clear belt using this method.

i would hope not. it's dangerous as all hell. i've had a 4 cruiser spawn pop within 5 k's of me and if you're not paying 100% attention 100% of the time you run a good risk of getting yourself jammed and killed. then there's player pirates to contend with.
sure its easy to do but the risk of death is high.

Solo part is optional, but true, no guards.
It works very well.

Well, yes, that's all true too, but it you're paying attention it's not a problem.
Anyway, that's why you use a cruiser: it's hardly any loss if the NPCs blow up your Thorax.
