So, I was playing around with a kestrel on a lvl 3 agent mission. I had to kill two Moa's and a transport ship. So, I planned to lock them at 63km fire a load of cruise missiles, and mwd to a safe distance and wait for them to stop firing. Well, I fired, turned on my mwd a couple of times, and I'm about 70km now. I can see their heavy's coming...and they haven't blown up yet, so I mwd a couple of more times...still coming...mwd, mwd, mwd. I look at my scanner...I'm about 90-95km away...and all the heavy's (yes, I'm positive they were heavy's and not cruise) come smashing into my kestrel, podded. I'm REALLY confused and shocked that heavy missiles can go 90km!? Is this a bug or is it some special power that npc's have with heavy missles? Can they go that far!? Can anyone tell me if this is ordinary? And if this is not a bug, does anyone have suggestions for a kestrel set up that would be able to take on the 2 Moa's from long range?

NPCs can target-lock you in zero seconds; their missiles appear to have an infinite range; their capacitors have recharge times of nil; and their ammunition supply is also infinite.
This helps to compensate somewhat for their intelligence being almost nil. But only somewhat.

Yep, i have been hit by light missiles at 120km!
Best bet if they have your outgunned is lots of anti-missile defence or use asteroid grivity to intercept the missiles.
Thats my preferred option anyway.

I think it's a bug, normally light missiles from the angels i fight don't hit me at 18KM, but sometimes, they'll hit me at any range. weird.

ENough light missiles to toast a kestrel using an mwd to get away came from 7 npcs spawned via a lvl 3 kill mission. They started hitting at 180km away too, lol. |

Ok, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bug....but it should be! Doesn't anyone else besides me think that's a little obsurd, and kind of ruins certain game mechanics? They really need to change this...

I agree it's very very wrong, if it's a bug then it needs fixing asap, if it's intentional then it's a very lame way of making up for rubbish AI.

They have a range of 300km
Tried it out in a rifter with mwd and it exploded after about that...give or take 20km

The NPC missiles don't seem to have any limit to flight time. They seem to keep going until they hit something or leave the grid. I assume it's to reduce server load (not tracking flight time means less CPU usage), but it's really unfair to people who use long-range guns or hit and run attacks.

Silly me I petitioned this.... after some notes back and forth I was told basically sorry you lost your ship.
So officially it is not a bug as:
A - The GM's will tell you that they've not heard of this (no matter how many times you direct them to a thread about it).
B - Their logs don't cover this so even -if- it is a bug you are just out of luck.
If it is later declared a bug I am going to be real frickin ****ed. But with my luck it will be.
Or better:
It is an NPC exploit and any NPC found using it,if not killed by the player, will be banned like all the other exploiters.
Not.

If its not a bug, then why would they change it. It was the last patch that did it. |

I found the missiles hitting me 80km+ from the big castor patch they said I think it was because pirates have tech level 2 missiles. So I thought it is normal. ______________________ I am just a crazy cow |

Its not all NPC missiles either, some go way past range others explode about where you'd expect. Nul.

the MAJOR issue, when we get those tech2 missiles they will be nerfed they will be nothing what the npc's are using and again we are screwed... you can call it balance or whatever you like, the thing is its stupid and they should fix it. support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

Hehehe, good one. Maybe if we all petition to the GM's about the NPC exploiting not yet released tech 2 missiles, they'll be banned! lol, but seriously...it needs to be fixed

I think this is how it is intended to be.
If these missiles would not hit me from the 125KM i snipe my NPC cruisers and BS's from, i would have zero actual risk in killing them. Now at least there's some...
I havent had them MWD over either at this range btw. They just me back and shoot some missiles, thats all _______________________________________________

Intended to be...
Rofl...
TomB doesn't even know that ECM is working against NPCs and you are talking about intended to be. Come on, CCP doesn't even know the concept of healer aggro, just give the noob programmers a break. -- Morkt Drak: "I go afk and upon return find my scorpion having the **** shot out of it by Biomass Cartel.. scorpion blows up but i escape in my pod." |

Thats nothing, I 0.0 8 npc's locked me at 15km I turned on my mwd and put 450km from them, I was still locked and they were still shooting at me. STILL LOCKED I was not taking hits, but STILL locked! And they were still shooting there heavy missiles that can hit you 120km away. I want some of them missiles. But when I kill the rats I get there missiles and they dont go that far for me. And CCP say game mechanics.............hahaha

Yeh i'd aprecate it if the NPC's had the same limits that we did.
Last week I thought I'd take my blackbird out hunting cruisers. I warped into a belt at 60km and saw 3 maller's and a few frigs at 80-100km from me. Not a problem I thought...
As i exited warp the all had me locked and the NPC's opened fire right away! I was getting hit for full damage by the mallers at 80km. The frigates were 100km away and withing 2 seconds thier LIGHT missiles were hitting me. I only had enough time to turn to allign to warp and I was down to 20% armour!
Bit unfair if you ask me. :) --------------------------------------------- Hand over the coffee and no one gets hurt |

If this is a game mechanic then its a very rubbish one.
If you are going to make npc's harder give them more hitpoints, more shields.
Having missiles and guns that can hit at unbelievanle ranges cuts the game down to who has the biggest ship and cuts out the ability to use tactics like hit and run.
