I just noticed all threads over 90days old get auto locked. Anyone else see this as bad? There are tons of great threads that came back again and again mostly in the sticky sections. Some go up to 90days without posts then get more. Take the cap thread by dust puppy. That comes back every 6months or so and its good.
I do see why this is done to stop necros but in stopping the invalid bumping up old threads the bumping up good threads has also been toped.

w00t, they took my suggestion.
If it's REALLY important you could always link the old thread.. although I wouldnt make a habit of it if you want to keep your posting privileges.

I tried to post in this thread, created in 2005, but continously updated till 2007. I did not post, but I where able to create one. So yes, you can post in threads older then 90 days, as long its continously updated.
I also did browse the forums from the 2003 etc. They seems to be all locked.
Other words, I guess threads that have been inactive for at least 90 days get locked.

DO IT!!! 90 days is more then enough, hell, tbh 1 month is prolly more then enough but i think 90 days is a good compromise.
Offcourse the thread should remain linkable, just not postable. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

They should auto lock threads after the first post.

If they're going to auto lock threads they might as well remove the search function. There's no incentive to search for your issue if you can't revisit the topic. This encourages people with questions to just go ahead a start a new topic, since bringing back any topic more than a few days old is officially frowned upon. That's why we end up with eleven front page topics about the new star.
My two cents? Do exactly the opposite of the 90 day auto lock and all it implies. Come down hard on duplicates of recent topics, encourage people to search, research, and necro. Revisiting an old discussion can give much needed background to things like "why were the game mechanics changed thus?" and "why did you nerf me?"
Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again. A "branch topic" feature would be a godsend. Being able to create a thread that is related to but separate from the original thread allows people to say "hey, while we're on the subject; I have a related question but I don't want to hijack OP's thread." This will result in fewer locked topics due to "Thread has wandered off topic, *click*," while consolidating interests and helping legitimate questions not be lost in new topic frenzy. ----- TANSTAAFL

I think its a good thing to keep a thread open if it has had a post in the past 90 days.
We had a thread on the Drone Region problems that was continually posted to for a year before CCP fixed some of the problems. It was very detailed and explained the issues well. From time to time CCP would come in and say: 'nothing wrong that we see', at which point they would be flamed into oblivion or otherwise chided about their lack of understanding.
If that thread was locked after 90 days from the first post, we'd still have broken asteroids, broken moons, unbalanced loot drops, no officers, no hauler spawns, no missions...
Hey, wait! Most of that still broken!

Necros shouldn't be comedy gold. That's what gets them locked and prevents legitimate understanding of the evolution of game mechanics.
Necros should be celebrated. Ideally they mean the necroer had the impetus to research his topic of issue and may have possibly learned a bit of background relating to his issue. ----- TANSTAAFL

i really dont understand the freakout over necroing. unless the underlying premise of what the thread is talking about has changed (ie talking about moduels that changed long ago, political situations long gone) wtf does it matter if a thread is old and revived?

I agree with this. If it goes 3 months without a response, it really should be locked.

I'm sure that if there is a useful thread that gets auto locked the mods would be able to unlock it.
I think the new Report feature would be an excellent way to let them know.

Unless, perhaps, CCP pay themselves for advertising. More new threads equal more "advertising revenue" (writeoffs). That's the only explanation I can imagine that sanctifies this tendency. ----- TANSTAAFL

It's good, because members of certain alliances used their "summon thread" spell way too much.
