Edited by: Zantei on 21/12/2007 02:35:29 I'm having a lot of trouble fitting the Hawk properly, I always end up with two or three slots free which is never a good thing. I'd really like to make this AF work, any experienced Hawk pilots about?
Currently flying:
High
Standard Missile Launcher II Standard Missile Launcher II Standard Missile Launcher II Standard Missile Launcher II Empty
Medium
1MN Afterburner II Small Shield Booster II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Empty
Low
Ballistic Control System I Power Diagnostic System I
Rigs
Anti EM Screen Reinforcer I Anti EM Screen Reinforcer I
Considering that resists play a large part in AF survivability, I thought that it made sense to bring the EM shield resists up from 0% to a constant 62%.
The reason for the tech II launchers is to be able to use precision missiles and scare off interceptors, fury missiles I just don't get how to use (shorter range, in which case why not just go with rockets).
BCS is needed on a Hawk, the missile DPS just isn't enough and even with one it doesn't quite measure up to other AFs (well, it doesn't even compare).
What I have is alright for NPC'ing (not great), great for scaring off interceptors and an adequate shield tank if for some reason it becomes the centre of attention in a gang fight.
I think that the afterburner is useless but a part of me feels as though AFs should be moving at a respectable speed the whole time.
Any ideas?

Not a terrible fit, though I'd drop the rigs as if you get hit hard enough with EM you're going down regardless.
I hate to say this, but train for the Vengeance. Ever since I switched from the Hawk to the Vengeance it's been a blast. The ability to fit a tank, tackle, and 4 launcher DPS is great.
As for the hawk, I'd go with a medium extender in the mids and a MAPC or two to make it fit. Buffer is good, and you don't have amazing cap for a rep. ________

One of my setups
High 4 x SML II
Mid 1MN AB II small SB II Cap Injector II - Cap 75 Charges Ancillary Balistic Screen Stabalizer I
Low BCU II PDU II
No Rigs ATM, not sure its worth it.
Its a decent setup, but as the above poster said, the Hawk is severly gimped in terms of DPS. Im using the Hawk because I lost my Ret. My Ret chewed through rats where tha Hawk likes to take its sorry time. The Hawk has range, but it pays for it with reduced dps, especially at close tange.
For a comparison, the above setup has only 73 DPS. A med pulse II ret pushes 133 using MF an no dmg mods and has a stable tank that covers more dmg types. you have to go to IR crystals (14km +2.4 fall off) to get down to the Hawks DPS. A rocket Hawk with Arby launchers can break 100 dps with a 10km max range, but it needs 2 BCU II.

The more I look at the Hawk, the more 'meh' it seems.
The only solid role it fits is as an anti-interceptor unit but I'm sure that one or two other frigs can do the job just as well. That's the only reason to have tech II launchers, fury missiles are messed up and bug ridden.

tbh it either needs a 5th launcher, or move that 5th high to a med and improve the tank.
that way, at least you have a rather tanky kestrel. ---

I use:-
Highs
4x Arby standards (Bloodclaws)
Mids
Small shield booster II Braced multispectral matrix Small AB II Passive T2 EM Amp
Lows BCS II Intertia stab II
Rigs
EM rig Explosive rig
I use this for low sec ratting and sit well away from the warp in point and use the missiles 50km range and the i-stab gives me more than enough time to gtfo if someone else comes to the belt. The CPU is tight on the ship and its worse if you go for T2 fit, I couldn't get T2 standards on nor a T2 Invul. *moderated - removed to facilitate search query* |

The question is what are you doing w/ your Hawk?
rocket fit i use most often for mucking about.
Hi-slot 4 t2 rocket launchers. 1 t2 75mm railgun
med-slot 1 T2 sm shield booster 1 micro cap injector / 200's 1 AB 1 T2 Shield amp (Em to round out res or npc specific)
(if you swap the AB for a MWD, use a best named shield amp for cpu issues)
lo-slot 2 t2 BCS
rigs: 2 hydraulic bay thrusters
18km range w/ t1 rockets 110ish dps (125dps w/ CN thorn).
20km range w/ t2 rage rockets 130ish dps
52km range w/ t2 jav rockets 100ish dps.
520m/s w/ ab 1300 m/s w/ mwd.
46/70/80/60 resistance.

Ahhh the Hawk...
Its slow - you won't catch or maintain anything for solo work - it excels in frig gang support.
In a gang with a tackler - its an anti-interceptor beast.
Highs: 4 Standard Launcher II
Mids EM resist amp, Web (for blaster taranis/short range ships), Small shield boost (the ship bonus acts like a shield boost amp), small cap boost (you can just about perma run your shield booster with 150 charges).
Lows: Ballistic Control II (I if you have CPU issues), CPU fitting mod
Rigs: Missile Velocity, and Missile Explosion Velocity
I've been able to hit inty's flying 8000ish m/s - and do a little bit of damage (think a crow 20km orbit on you - you will easily tank their crap DPS, and you will chew off their shields till they leave, or your tackler snags him).
A Blaster Taranis hit with precision sabretooths will cry when they realize you can tank them, and youve pinned them, and are smashing them in 3 volleys give or take a volley depending on comparative skills.
In a gang with this setup you can also smash up enemy drones (hey wait - my Warrior II's are gone?!).
For solo I think it sucks and is outclassed by the other AFs - in a gang it has a niche and does its job really well. Sure a Caracal can do the same job better with assault launchers - but its a bigger slower ship which is more vulnerable to opposing enemy fire. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Sell the hawk and buy 10 Kessies. They do more damage! -- Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment. |
