I tried it. Twice. Once when i started the game, once with trinity... Both times, the guns in general turned me off.

You should try a rack of autocannons that fire every two seconds or so.

I like the sound of the guns, and I wish I could play with the sound on without lagging from it as soon as there's more than 20 v 20 ships in a battle.

You don't have to have sound on to use Eve voice. So, just turn sound off when using Eve voice.

If you move your camera away from the source of the sound (i.e. zoom out) that sound tends to lessen and eventually die off completely. It's wonderful, really, especially with the loud npc guns. ------------- Stop whining.

zoom out, for whatever reason (good and bad) they make the sound volume based on where your 'camera' is, so if you're close enough to read the serial number on your hull you're gonna hear it LOUD, but if you zoom out so you can barely see your ship then you prolly won't even hear the guns.

This is really annoying, having the camera distance control sound effect volume. I have to constantly play zoomed out if there is any rockets / light missiles being fired. I can't possibly be the only one who likes to look at my ship while playing the game and hear the sounds without getting my eardrums blasted out by obnoxious, overpowering missile explosions.
Fortunately turret effects alone can be turned off by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Shift T, and that will kill their sounds as well. But for missiles you're screwed.

I do the same thing. It's bizzare. I'm sure they'll fix it about the same time that 'lou starts getting cold. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

Know what's good for a rush? Play your first three months as a total mishing carebear, and never EVEmail anyone.
Then freak when you start hearing the sound that means "You detect a distress signal emanating from the pirate you just destroyed. Another gang of pirates has warped in to reinforce the blockade!" On login. While warping. In Station. WTF?! Pirate spawn in station?!
Then apply your palm firmly to your forehead when you finally realize that sound also means "You have EVEmail!" ----- TANSTAAFL

Best way of getting yelled at by Fleet Commander is having ingame sound on.
Tho I sometimes turn on the EVE music on during ...peacetimes (?) when I get to mine

I will try to be a bit constructive here , from a sound man point of view , EVE sound is absolutely catastrophic , did CCP sound man ever heard of the concept balance ? you know the one that tune all the sound to equal levels ? right now we got some sound which are balanced , and some others which are way over the top louder . also the sound are too rich in high frequencies , i do not know if its a bad mix or just side effect of the sound compression method EVE uses , but i do know that the result is deafening . the fact that 80 % or so of the subscribers play without sound should be a clear sign that something is not working right . and its a damn shame cause the sound directly contribute to the atmosphere of the game , and at the moment its complete waste cause EVE sound is hazardous to your earing .
