Please take away the ability for everyone to check another corp's or player's standings. By this I mean the "Likes, Dislikes, Liked By, Disliked By". Keep the relationship tab. There is no reason for the above mentioned tabs to be publically viewed. For instance you might set your friends to high standing with you, and as a result they might be directly targeted by your enemies. Same goes for secret negotiations like between a pirate and a supplier. There is no secrecy with standings anymore
At the very least make it an option to publicly display it or not. For instance if a corp wants to show off their list of friends to scare off intruders. As for me, I'd like to use my different degrees of standings and reasons for the sake of organization, but atm I avoid it because it's publicly available knowledge. ______________

I agree, it is silly for these to be public knowledge... Don't think it's going to do much good posting this in general forums tho.

I think it's fine the way it is..
It does not publicly announce your standings towards other players. Their standings towards you or other players aren't public.. It's just factions and corps that are shown. What's the harm again?
It's not like your buddy list is on display.
This is a nerf idea. I think it should be public like now. This way you can do a little research on a player. So what.. You have something to hide?

Actually, yes. I have plenty to hide when I want to. And only someone too lazy to put in the work to find out who my allies may be would want to keep the standings public.
That's what this is about: laziness. The information should be availible to anyone willing to put in the work to find it out. In Eve, that'd prolly translate into having an agent high enough to dig out the information. But availible at a glance? Let's put it like this:
Why do I have to have access to a level 3 agent in the region a person is in to find what solar system they're in? Why can't I simply look them up in the addressbook and see their location?
Because that information could directly lead to that person's destruction and it wouldn't be fair to have it freely availible.
Same thing applies here.

Naw.. I'm not too lazy to find out. But I still want to keep the standings public.
I donĘt care if it gets nerfed into an agent service either. That would be acceptable. But still it doesnĘt bother me to have it just the way it is.
Yeah. I just donĘt see the whole privacy thing when it comes to this. Maybe if it showed player standings.. But it's just corps, NPC corps, and NPC Factions.. DoesnĘt bother me.
If it has to be the ladder.. Then at least I would keep the NPC Corp standings and NPC Faction standings. Likes, Dislikes, Liked By, and Disliked By.. Just because itĘs cool.

The information is too useful to be so easily availible. It's too easy to find a corporation's support and hit that support currently. And as much as I may like mayhem and chaos, I prefer balance more. Knowledge is power. And that type of power should be earned, not given.
Right now if I wanted to I could simply look up a corporation, see what NPCs like them and pretty much locate their mission runners for easy pickings in a war. I can simply look at m0o, see who has them set to +10.0 standings and go pound on those corps until m0o does something about it. It's a layer of depth being removed and a layer of protection as well.
Then again I feel if I have a high enough standing with an NPC corporation, their agents should notify me when someone queries my location. Balance

Not against interaction. But the way things are, there's no room for depth. Which, if you've been reading my posts of late, is my primary complaint next to free lunches.
With the information freely availible, there's no room for intrigue. And currently the standings system has to be used by corporations. It's the only way to positively ID friend or foe given the environment.
So yes, the information should be availible. But it should come with a price of earning it. Maybe give a little meaning to sec rating and faction. And possibly provide other opportunities for those with the ability. I vaguely remember drunkenmaster charging somewhere in the neighborhood of 1m-5m to locate people with his lvl 4 agent when it was active. So there's no telling what could be considered profitable.

Interaction would be when you'd need spies to get that information. I don't really like them being public either. Imo it kills rp a bit. Less room for spies, we're given a lot of useful information for free. |

Keep them public. If corps are too scared to let people know who their allies/enemies are maybe they should stay in empire where it's safe
If you don't want your corp standings known don't edit them.

It's not about fear it's about security. If my corp were to capture and ransom you, and you paid us to leave you alone for X amount of time, would you like all our enemies to see you listed as a positive standing from us? This should not be public data; they are private matters between individual corps and players. ______________

It's not like I dont know how to write constructive posts but I have an impression that the devs are working under-staff. Their to do list is too long already, and remember they are the ones who make things happen and decide stuff. So my point is: will it make a difference if you guys keep posting
Like the change on sentry gun range ... ppl will just move on no matter how many threads were posted. Just play the game

Think of this as public standing. You can of course plot and scheme with whoever you like without setting your standing towards them to 10. Why would an agent runner with m0o set the standing towards m0o 10? __________ Capacitor research |

Just leave it alone.
I stopped hiring new members because of the old system.
Now it allows me to do heavy research on a person before I hire them.
I also might not want to hire a person who has bad standings with a certain NPC corp, or I could be even more interested in one who had favourable standings with a corp.
I can also check their acts of agression and dates, and other items I dont wish to mention concerning hiring practices.
And yes of course, I have done a great deal of research on other corps and who their friends and enemies are to find out more about them as well.
It works both ways and it isnt broken so please don't change it.

Being able to see the individual standing transactions makes locating agent runners and NPC hunters much easier, as you can find out what agents people are using and when, along with what faction of 'rats they have been killing with a rough idea about how tough thoese 'rats were. This is just too much inforamtion to be freely available.

I can understand all that data is effecting server performance to some degree.. If that is the case, then it would be OK in my book to have it made secret. If not, then really i dont care if people can see who i like or dislike because at the moment i'm not doing anything with it.
I'd rather have the corporation set the bad guys for me. Everyone not showing up red is good in my books anyways. -------

My concern is not with NPC relationships, but with PC corp/players standings to eachother.
I could understand factions and NPCs making their data public; which is why I suggest making it optional for PC corps. If some people want their friends to be known, so be it. But there are a lot of shady organizations that don't want their relationships automatically public. ______________

Hmm, Im going to have to agree with Jash for once, this sort of data should not be freely given away to anyone who can click a mouse, this sort of thing should be an agent service.
I really dont like the fact that, once Ive built up a list of enemies(everyone has one), they can just look at my info page and find out where I am(as Im an agent runner). Sara has a valid point about the ransom thing too.

Hell most information should be tied into megacorporation agents, it's all too freely available and doesn't make for the remaining agent contacts that are there to hold much excitement.
