Edited by: aubreymaturin on 21/12/2007 22:18:24 As a noob, I haven't read the backstory or absorbed much, but I wonder - where are the aliens? In the Eve universe, is there no such thing as a non-human race or the mention that an alien race existed?

No Aliens in EVE and actually I think the game works better for it. Not that aliens aren't fun but I think players relate to each other better when they are all "people" and not a tentacled thing or blob.
About the closest EVE gets to aliens are the Jovians. They are likewise human but have evolved more radically than the other races making them a bit...odd (and of course super powerful). CCP used to occasionally roll the Jovians into Events in-game but sadly they seem to have totally given up on that. Presumably sometime in the distant future CCP will get them in game but do not hold your breath.

The aliens are called Minmatar, Amarr, Caldari, or Gallente. They have a humanoid appearance, and look pretty much the same as people except that last 23,000 years has kind of split them off on the evolutionary tree after they invaded this sector of the galaxy.
In other words, "We" are the aliens.

Well there are rogue drones, which are like sentient evil robots that live as swarms in hives. All other inhabitants are indeed descendants of humans. EVE story is more about the internal conflicts between different human groups rather than interaction with any aliens, so no there are no non-human races present.

This "sector" of the galaxy? No, EVE is in a completely different galaxy than our own. We didn't just invade a sector of it, we invaded the whole thing.

Evil? Rogue drones aren't evil. They're just trying to live out their own little lives, and we players come along and attack them. Sure, every once in a while they harrass miners, but hey who doesn't?

Actually, the galaxy that our system (Sol) resides in is estimated to have around 100 billion stars in it. So part of your argument is likely correct in that EVE may be in a different galaxy, but there is no way that the handful of systems that comprise EVE could be even close to taking over a whole galaxy. In fact, 5k or so system wouldn't even make a decent globular cluster.

There are aliens in EVE, just none that are smart or advanced (that we've been made aware of).

There are indeed aliens in EVE. We are all red on your overview and can survive only in 0.4 security space and lower. Please come and research us. We long for more human contact.

Violent tendencies have noted in the 'alien' lowsec dwellers. It is advised that any scientists venturing into lowsec to gather specimens exercise extreme caution. ----- My in Eve Profile

Lies! All Lies! The Drones are Good! They seek peace, harmony, and order. Some day they shall rule the universe of EVE and reconfigure all of our space junk into living inorganic lifeforms long after we have all left or killed eachother for good. +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!

Well if there were any aliens, we'd have met them by now. At least we would according to Enrico Fermi and the Fermi Paradox.
Putting it simply, given any reasonable level of space travel technology - not talking light speed here, just bog standard rocket technology, and a modicum of imperial aspiration, any sufficiently capable civilization would have been able to colonize the galaxy within a reasonable time frame in relation to the age of the galaxy.
Putting it even more simply, if there were aliens out there, we'd have met them by now.

I forget the exact numbers, but someone took the amount of jumps using a ship with a jump drive and checked how many jumps were required to move from one end of the EVE galaxy to the other. The total number of light years proved that New Eden is either an extremely tiny "galaxy" (scarcely larger than a small star cluster) or a portion of a larger whole. Given the limits to space travel using jump gates (only binary stars are viable for jump gates, and thus only a very limited number of systems are suitable for colonization) it is quite possible that there are aliens who exist in New Eden, but we simply have never come upon them. Perhaps they simply aren't spacefaring and inhabit a world that revolves around a single star.
That said, there are several nonsentient life forms in the New Eden galaxy. Check out the chronicles on the fedo, hanging long-limb, and slavers. All three species are native to New Eden.

Read the rebuttals to that "paradox". Simple math proves that we are almost certainly not alone, regardless of the explainations for the lack of alien's walking down the street.
