as the title states, ive looked everywhere in game i could think of, *tried* searching these forums (hey CCP how about a REAL forums with REAL functions, please?) but to no avail. that channel is like a bad cross between a virus that never goes away, and WoW's barrens chat could someone help me get some relief please? (and yes, i asked this question numerous times in Rookie "Help" Channel, and most everyone in there was too concerned with arguing over who would make a better US president...)

Edited by: Kuranta on 25/12/2007 00:30:37 Hi, welcome to EVE.
Unfortunatelly, the Rookie Channel can not be disabeled. It will go awyay after 1-3 months (cant remember). Just right cklick on the label and turn blink off, change to the channel of your choice.
If you want to search the forums, Chribba provides eve-search to the community.

I thought you could close rookie help by right-clicking the tab and selecting that option. However, I am pretty sure it keeps popping up every time you log in. The simplest thing is to just merge it with your corp chat window, turn the blink off by right-clicking the tab and selecting that option and just keeping your corp chat tabbed to the front. Or you can do that with the local channel.
It goes away after 30 days. Its just one of those persistent problems with MMOs. Fortunately EVE does not have global (or universal) chat, so the problem is not as bad. The local channel in some of the trade hubs, like Jita or Oursulaert, gets spammed a lot by sellers hocking their wares. Generally I've found the chat channels of the NPC corps people start out in to actually be relatively spam free. Some of the general chat channels you see listed under "channels & mailing groups" get some spam, like the "blueprints" channel. But otherwise you won't run into it much, although you may get occasional eve-mails from isk sellers. ----------------------------------------------------

I had a lot of problems with lag when I started out. Closing the rookie chat channel solved most of them.
Yes. Just right click on the channel and select Close.
You have to do it every time you log in but as said it will go away on it's own after a month.

Depends on your npc corp, but I found it to be pretty good for advice. Mostly new people, but some more veteran-ish people too, who just hadn't gotten around to joining a pc corp, or who had fallen back to the npc one while looking for a new one. It was also possible to follow all the chatting ;)
