Im sure someone has thought about this before, but i cant find a topic ...
Well the idea is simple, change roids in the current belts to random ore containing ones; instead of 100% kernite / scordite what ever, change the roids all to have say 5% jaspet, 1% spodumain, 25% scor, etc ...
This way u HAVE to mine all the roids and not leave only those veldspar/scordite roids there while striping the rest. Ofcourse the system security rating would be modifier on the % of the ores in roids, but they would be random never the less.
Comments ?

Edited by: Wild Rho on 17/03/2004 02:45:26 It would be a good way to make use of the roid scaner. It could be used to scan the asteroid types and determine its mineral contents.
Would mean some major changes to the current system though but overall encourages scout players to do more detailed suveys of roid belts hoping to find that one big rare hit that contains a nice level of rarer mins.

A good idea! Then you could actually do some safe mining. Now you have to risk your life and isk to even see a arkanor roid. I have ventured down into deep space. It always ends in me going back in a pod or being cloned.

A nice idea, but not to easy to program inn a short period of time though.
Would be cool, and stripe mining would make more sense and maybe more profit as well.

Yah this topic has been brought up before and is a good idea. Although personnaly i would like to see the following types of distribution dependant on sec levels.
Sec Rating Ores Contained 1.0-.8 Veld, Scor, Pyrox, Plag .7-.5 veld, Scor, Pyrox, Plag, Omber, Kernite .4-.2 veld, Scor, Pyrox, Plag, Omber, Kernite, Hemorphite, Hedgerbite, Jaspet .1 all of the above plus dark ochre, gneiss 0.0 all of the ore types.
the % of ore should be influenced by sec rating as well as the % of veld and scor in 1.0 sytesms should be higher than the % of it found in roids in the .7-.5 range, as those should contain more of things like omber and kernite and int he .4-.2 range % wise the roids should contain higher % of hemorphite, hedger, kernite and jaspet... that sort of idea, though still containing the rest but in lower %'s.

I think it would be really good as it would allow people to hunt and find the best ore ratios in the asteroid belts..making life a little more interesting for miners.
maybe if you are lucky being able to find a little of a veryt very rare ore in 1.0 space...

This idea has resurfaced hundreds of times, and for a reason. Its a damn good one =)
Not only would such a thing be much more realistic, but open up the doors for alot more specialization in the miner proffession. Something that is drastically needed.
The rarer the ore type the more skills/equipment you're going to need to extract it. Also the lower sec rating of the system, the better the chance of finding rarer ores. Of course I think there should be a small chance to find any ore type in any system, getting rare ores from high sec systems is going to be about as reliable as using your forhead to punch a nail through a 2x4.

hehe...that would be so cool if we suddenly found some arkonor in the 0.5 system we are currently mining in ------------------------------------------ Reallife.dll is not found.....

actually having asteroids with multiple ore compositions would not be more realistic. In our solar system the asteroids formed in the same way as planets (heavier elements at the center and lighter ones at the surface) however, unlike the planets, they kept on getting bombarded from other asteroids and intersteller material. This fractured the asteroids and when you fracture a onion like structure it will most likely seperate into its component parts first and then fracture those into new asteroids. So you end up with asteroids that are like pure iron and the like or you have asteroids that are cobbled together piles of dust and very light materials.

I think this is a good idea. It would really bring survey scanners into use, so you could see whats in an asteroid. Maybe when you target it, it will only show the main ore in it and you have to use your scanner to find out what else is in there. Right now they are kinda useless, it tells you how much.. say veld, is in a veld asteroid, but not much use since when that one runs out theres another veld asteroid 1000m to the right of it and other...

I like it for as someone else said you could use the scanner more and simply I would rpefer to get a greater range of ore from one ateroid for as a builder I needdifferent kinds all the time.

Very good idea. I dont like pvp but would like to mine for rare minz. That is not possible atm. One just get camped/killed/podded when trying your luck at some rares.

Interesting idea, and one that could work well.
However, for it to work well, the survey scanner would need an overhaul, to make it easier to connect the results of the scan with the roids listed on the overview. Otherwise it'll just turn mining into an endless wrestling with the terrible survey scanner interface.

bad sides;
1. this would break some mining systems used atm (modulated miners aka crystals) 2. this would make some skills and equipment obsolete (deep core mining)
good sides; 1. belts will be striped equaly 2. "scouting" effect on mining 3. depending on mixture will remove alliances monopoly on rares 4. might be generaly interesting.

I just want to say a coupple of things, and its about the survey scanners, ppl do accually use them, in 0.0. The reson ppl use it is to see how much yeld its in a rock, because you get faster regrowt if you dont pop the roids. So you use the scanner to see that its still some in and stop mining the stone before it pops. Other things: This will make it harder to mine specific mineral types. Because today if you need zydrine, you mine roids with a high halt of it, and if you need tritanium you mine veldspar or scordite. This makes it easyer to have a production line, and saves time. But then if they develope a system where you can specify in what ore you want to break out of the roid it could be more intresting. And build a skill system for it aswell. Thus making more then a 5 skill proffesion. That would be intresting.

Edited by: Arx Nemesis on 03/05/2005 12:43:10 Edited by: Arx Nemesis on 03/05/2005 12:41:51 Edited by: Arx Nemesis on 03/05/2005 12:03:49 actualy, here's how to take it beyond;
belts should be 1 shot generated, there should not be any growth, aka belt wont respawn unitl it's been absolutely stripped, when its stripped a new belt will spawn somewhere in the system with random values waiting to be striped down and randomize number of belts per system i.e. when all belts are striped from the system new random value is generated (number of belts) and belts get generated. max number of belts should by tied to security level, for example;
1.0 max 3 0.9 max 6 0.8 max 9 0.7 max 12 0.6 max 15 0.5 max 18 0.4 max 21 0.3 max 24 0.2 max 27 0.1 max 30 0.0 max 33
also remove belts from star maps, people should be finding them with scanners.all of this would make world more dynamic and bring in the exploration part that is actualy missing from eve.
as far as multi ores go, there is actualy system for it olready implemented in eve - look at roque drone drops.

CCP has already thought of a similar way which was meant to be introduced in exodus. Basically that there would be X% chance of a certain roid showing up in a system. IE a 1.0 system has a 5% chance of an ark roid spawning etc. The correct values they thought of are somewhere around. Unfortunately this has not been implemented, and i can only hope that this idea was not scrapped, along with dust cloud mining.
The idea that Me Loonn was trying to get across was that a single roid ie a "Harpernic" roid gets locked, and then u run survey scanner on the roid itself, not the belt, just like a cargo scanner. Then it might show similar to below :
Veldspar - 27,300 Scordite - 6,230 Jaspet - 86 Bistot - 2
And as also mentioned, you would have more chance of the upperclass roids when entering lower sec with 0.0 hosting the "Ambersinth" roid which gives holds :
Veldspar - 10,356 Omber - 7,345 Kernite - 4,537 Arkanor - 33
This would stop the select few systems from having complete owneship in all arkanor and bisot, while they could still have larger quantities of those great ores. 0.0 is 0.0 , i dont know why CCP implemented the idea that only very select few 0.0 systems had these uber ores, as 0.0 is just as dangerous/risky in a providence backwater system, as it is in the back of fountain space.
Great idea nonetheless
