Foundation? Empire? Robots (already did this one, poorly)?
Foundation has too large a scope for a movie, IMHO (which is the same problem with Frank Herbert's Dune). Haven't read Empire yet. Picking another Robot story and starting a script from scratch with a writer who actually knows about the original story ("I, Robot" was built from an existing script before the title was optioned) might work.

already being made into a series i think on the sci-fi channel. to be honst they couldnt make it into a movie without taking a lot of the book out. also making it into a miniseries on a local cable station and not on HBO or some premium channel they will have to dull down or leave out some important parts.
example kahlan riding naked on a horse with thousands of naked men into battle i dont think will make it onto a local cable station in the western world.

Metal Gear Solid, the movie, though with that said, the games themselves are practically movies, and i honestly dont know how theyre going to put the suspense and storyline with a movie, but the movie DEFINITELY has to be CGI the whole way through.
On the subject of artemis fowl the movie, i dont know how theyre going to make a good movie out of that book, NOTHING could compare to the book itsself, as the book was totally pwn in the first place!

movie that most definately needs to be made is "Jenna does ZOLA" with both me and her in lead acts (Jenna Jameson and myself :)
the book is not existing yet, and i think profanity filter would filter out short scenario which i would give you here. to cut the long story short, my current fiancee would be with us in movie aswell and in the end i would marry one of them but we (all 3) would live together happily after that...
it would be action movie ofc, really lots of action

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 27/12/2007 11:27:07 i'd love to see a series of movies done for the ColdFire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman.
Dark story, great characters, amazing setting. Now all it needs is a director capable of doing the books justice.

I would love to see a movie of Tom Clancy's "Dept of honor" and "Executive orders" ... I remember I did read Executive orders and loved it, did not realise it at first that it was the second book and that you really should read Dept of honor first
Anyway two great books that I would love to see in a movie or mini-series.

From Games:
Knights of the Old Republic Baldur's Gate Mass Effect Morrowind and/or Oblivion
From Books:
Master of Rome and/or The Grass Crown by by Colleen McCullough
Island in the Sea of Time by S.Stirling
Children of Hurin by you know who
Pushing Ice, Chasm City, or just about any other novel by Alastair Reynolds
And, especially for us immortal-via-cloning pod pilots, Altered Carbon, and every other "Takashi Kovacs" novel by Richard Morgan.
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein.
All the above are excellent reads, BTW.
From Comics:
"Captain America" but would require a great, not merely good, script. For that matter "Captain Britain" under the same circumstances. "Supreme Power" by J. Michael Straczynski
From TV:
Samurai Jack Jack deserves to get home.
Less excellent stuff that would probably make OK films:
All the "Dune" prequel novels by Brian Herbert & Paul Anderson. Laughable as literature when compared to Frank Herbert's original Dune Trilogy, but read like decent Hollywood scripts.
"Futurama" "Boondocks" "Venture Brothers" Old Man's War by Scalzi
Stuff that should not be (not have been) made into a movie, but probably will be someday (again):
"Green Lantern"
Anything with the word "Ender" or "Hegemon" in the title.
ANYTHING ever written by Aasimov
Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein
Any book with a title that contains a pun involving the word "Myth"
Any book by Ayn Rand
"Guns of the South" By H. Turtledove or any of its bastard progeny.
Stories butchered by Hollywood, that damn well deserve to be done right:
Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein.

I just picked up the seventh installment in that series. Some of the best novels I've ever read in that series.
If they started with the Grass Crown it could work, since most people don't know the story of Sulla and Marius that well. It would work better as a series though. I would love to see Mistress as a movie. Even more I would like to be involved in production, so they don't screw it up. Mistress has just enough action, just enough science, and just enough smut. The computer "issues" are outdated, but easily translatable. This is Heinlein's best work.
But every time I've reread it since 9/11 I can't help but see the "terrorist" parallels. Admittedly there are differences between modern "terrorism" and the Loonie action, but exploring the concepts would be what makes Mistress an excellent film.

Much as I'd like to see it, it just couldn't be done. There's too much awkward sensuality to appeal to the modern moviegoer. The Fosterites are very much alive (and in power!) here and it just wouldn't work. Shame.

No. Please no. Rand takes all the good points of Heinlein and makes them bitter and dispalatable. I almost wish I were back in high school, so I could write a paper about how Rand is the prototypical emo *****.

Yes, please yes. It's not an action story. It's nationalistic propaganda, with some utopian philosophical examinations thrown in. We need more of this, if only to be able to recognize same in our enemies.

Michael McCollum's Antares novels (Antares Dawn, Antares Passage, Antares Victory). I do see four potential obstacles: 1. How exactly to explain foldpoints? Probably could be done by modifying the first scene, but the concept is both unusual and essential. 2. First two novels contain one combat scene each (though the second one could easily include a flashback). Third one contains multiple battle scenes, but marketing the first two might be a problem. 3. Space combat in the Antares books is very realistic. Lasers are not visible, distances are vast, and ships travel at appropriate velocities. The sole battle scene in the first book is split into three waves. Each wave is actually firing for about 40 seconds. It could be done, but it would be difficult. 4. The Ryall aliens aren't humanoids. They're like six-legged centauroids. However, some Ryall are major characters (especially Varlan), and their emotions are similar to ours. Their minds work differently, but not that differently. Bringing the Ryall to life will be difficult.
Also, has anybody besides myself read these books? ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

UFO: Enemy Unknown, would make a great series, like the band of brothers series, 10 parts each an hour long or something, would make a cool series i think if it were done by that guy who did sin city or something, done in a dark bleak way like frank miller's movies.
