I made this thread on the tech lab board, which doesn't seem very populated. still looking for some feedback there.
Cheers.

4 is the way to go but I'd go with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo. It's $100 Canadian and very good for non-SLIers
8400 :( Get an 8800gt :)

That DS3L looks kinda spartan, like the AM2+ board on under the phenom but with the difference of a lot of alternate choices with my vendors of choice.
The 8400 i already have, no room in the budget for a replacement right now.

Try a tech board like extremeoverclocking for some in depth advice.
I'd be tempted to resurrect the old box while saving up to build a new one. As for the Phenom I'd hold off for a bit. You can get an AMD 5000+ and oc' it.

John,
I just got a new motherboard, if you want to go AMD way, get the ASUS K3 Motherboard(about 90USD). I am assuming only 1 Video card. so you don't need a mobo with 2-4PCIe slots. The K3 is a great mobo for this. It supports both AM2/AM+ chipsets so you are good to go when you decide to go phenom.
I got an AM x2 6400+, behaves very nice and a ATI Radeon 8750. Also superb at 249 from newegg, as opposed to GTS and GTX at 384 and 499 each..
Add 2 GB of ram, and you're golden. a nice not so expensive and somewhat high end system that will run anything well. (ok for the uber gamers, maybe not everything at max) but again this is EvE forum.
I am running Eve with all the specs at high and getting 150-160fps in station 90fps outside, on a Vista x64 Ultimate..

Right now i've shuffled stuff around a bit, i'm thinking of going for an intel dual core setup since it seems to be lauded for a lot of stability by a load of people in all kinds of places.
I don't want to save to drastically on the mainboard, since this PC is going to have to do for a few years to come, i.e. no-hassle-upgrading. Current plan:
Core 2 E6750 (2666) MSI P35 Platinum 2GB DDR2-800
I have a 8400GS right now, which i wanna keep till i break it, its fine for me now. But for future i might want to upgrade to a 2-card setup. More importantly, the 2-card boards generally support a lot more gimmicks like firewire and the sorts, plus the lasting capability.
