How do they work? i hear something about falloff being the most important factor, but i'm not sure how it all works?
I'd like any info or guides you have on this.
Thank you in advance

They work just like any other weapon? They have optimal range, damage mod and fall-off range. The trait of the projectile turrets is that they have a very high fall-off range (and poor optimal) and in the case of artillery turrets a very high damage mod and hence alpha damage. ---------------------------------------

Yes, you're basically right. Falloff is more important than optimal with projectiles. If you want to make your ACs better you'd get falloff rigs. If you want to fight out of web range you'd fly around 13 km and be at your falloff, which would halve your DPS I believe.
I'm just now getting into projectiles myself, so I hope I wasn't completely wrong.

Optimal is still important with Artillery, and 13km is overheated web range... so scoot a bit futher out (Barrage M and 600m/sec orbit peaks DPS at 15-16km IIRC).
But yes, optimal + falloff (barring transversal) is generally 50% of the EFT listed DPS. Just remember that Barrage is the Holy Grail of Minmatar ammos, and has a tracking penalty.

blaster normally work in falloff aswell, but for autos the falloff is more important since you will be outdamaged by blasters if you get too close. Therefor most blasterpilots forget that they have an falloff and try to fight at their optimal (where tracking sucks anyway)

I smell a fellow vagabond pilot.
Also, I tend to fly a DPS/speed vagabond vs. pure speed. I use hail quite a bit too.
Overheated @ optimal I can melt a drake solo in under a minute.
Of course going up against anything with some serious DPS and a web would make that a fatal strategy, but I like to be able to pull the gloves off. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

Not true, the thing with blasters is that their falloff is generally about the same as their optimal, so those five or so extra kilometres you have to travel won't make that much of a difference.

Edited by: Hans Angry on 26/12/2007 20:22:31 with projectiles, mainly autocannons, you should fight at your fall off range, or mid fall off, not you optimal, i.e, vagabond should be at 15 or so km out, with 220mm's and barrage m, unless its a damage speed fit, hail works Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. And it was ten times too big :p If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes
