Dont you think its a bit odd that the majority of people are close to coventry and birmingham that are having this problem?
I did a tracert again

All 3 IPS''s belong to
OrgName: Cable & Wireless Americas Operations, Inc. OrgID: CWAO Address: 230 Park Avenue Address: Suite 1000 City: New York StateProv: NY PostalCode: 10169 Country: US
So from what I can gather the packets are going
Birmingham>Manchester>NewYork
I thought the servers were based in London ?
If this is the case NTL are diverting data through New York and not directly to the servers.

No, the servers are based in Iceland.
The tracert effectively goes out of the UK NTL network, over the Atlantic onto the Cabel and Wireless one then out of the US into Iceland. It seems tobe the routers in Iceland that are not acknowledging the UK packets.
It's possible that some of NTLs servers / routers have been blacklisted because of virus propogation by NTL customers. It's an extreme measure but very effective if your network is being flooded from a particular IP range.

You sure they're based in iceland? Not merely the ones for authentication and all the little stuff (to take the load off the routes to the main server or something...)?
I distinctly remember back in beta the servers being installed in London because it is the optimum point for both europe and america, heck, I even remember there being some sort of delay with the delivery of the server?
Anyhoo, surely its just a quick matter of them unblocking them.
But, having said all of this, is it not strange that the same day the cache of ntl's birmingham proxy server gets overloaded, and the same day ntl decides to not use the proxy server temporarily, that ccp's servers also auto-ban ntl's range of ip addresses?

The live servers are based in London, the development server in Iceland. It sounds like a routing issue from your ISP from what you have determined. Best course of action? Complain loudly and often to your ISP until someone fixes it --------------------------------------------------

Its working now :)
However, SIR PRIME is still having problems. Maybe this needs a new thread? I don't know, it seems like a different problem entirely.

Just a note from across the pond, New York and Boston are notorious choke points on services routes over here, everytime we have network problems at work, the buck stops in either NY, or Boston. and the odd thing is our routes are almost 2,000 miles away on the west coast region. No real reason to route out past Chicago or KC. anyways the Symptons usally are the same....hangups, time outs, slooooow service.
Your ISP may be hitting that same bottle neck, though why route to New York in order to hit the servers in London? Good luck with the issues.
