I was reading through the other post about removing alts and I realised that people had some differences on what they believe alts were intended for.
What I would like to discuss is what the two different views of unintended play are since it might help to clear up some arguments.
The most obvious and agreed upon abuse is use of alts for grief play and spying. In other words the alt is used to shield the main from the unscrupulous actions of the player. This kind of alt can be used to attack shipss with important cargo in high security space or spy on enemy corporations and many other things.
The second type of unintended play is using the alt as a mule. A mule is like a slave or workhorse for the main character. Many people use mules to hold things for their main character if there is limited storage, specialise in trade skills allowing the main to be functional in preferred areas, go into areas the main is not allowed for goods and a number of other things.
Most people see the former as being a problem, but many do not see the second as abusing secondary characters. Many people use alts as mules because they dont see it as harming other gameplay. In some ways they are right, because they do not go out of their way to cause trouble. It could be seen as though the alts are taking business from people that have a main character that is specialised in a trade. When a person can use an alt to produce for himself he doesnt have to buy services from someone who wants to work full time in that alts field.
We just need to be sure we are on the same track while we talk about alts and uses so maybe we can come up with an appropriate solution.

Its an interesting perspective (one which due to it being St Patricks day I cannot give too much thought to ). I myself use my alt, Harry Monk, to reprocess loot & fetch and carry things to & from my HQ as my main is too far away. My alt is a member of our corp so perhaps this may be a way of regulating there use. How though I couldn't think.

Thats pretty bordeline for being a mule I guess. If he isnt just working for your character, but instead the corp. it sounds more like a seperate character.

At least state what side of the fence you're on.
Are you:
For any alt.
For only mule alts no griefing or spys.
No alts.
