I've seen the API + phpBB + TS3 solutions. They look mighty sweet and they are likely to be used on my corp/alliance boards in the next week. However.. I want one more link in that chain: get a bridge between the phpBB userdatabase and the Joomla one.
I am using Joomla 2.5.1, but may consider downgrading to 1.6 or 1.7 if there's a solution out there... Note I am not entirely n00b when it comes to setting stuff up, but just lack the coding knowledge to make something myself.
Anyone have a suggestion? |

There are free bridges on joomla's website. Once your forums(master) Api verify someone you can have it bridged to your joomla(slave). |

As said in the second post of this thread, caution here.
I have a Joomla site + phpbb forum with the Rockettheme bridge in between. Phpbb forum has been modded with the API registration mod from Cyerus and I encountered problems syncing the users.
You probably want, if you choose the Rockettheme bridge (I haven't tested the others) to have phpbb as master for your user registrations and deactivate the registrations through Joomla. At least, that partially solved the problem for me, but user sessions are still a bit unstable.
There was also, an API component for joomla, that could display character sheets, wallets, corporation details and so on, but syncing both was a nightmare, and I don't even know if it is still maintained.
