How?
We are having debates over this on IRC but have failed so far to get same numbers as EFT.

Edited by: Wu Jiun on 27/12/2007 16:39:13 Well if r is your resistance to a certain dmg type (say r = 0.6 for 60% base em resistance on armor) and h is the number of armor hitpoints you'd have as effective amor hitpoints vs. em:
h_eff = 1/(1-r) * h
A quick check on eft with an unfitted maller (all lvl5) gives r = 0.7, h = 2344 and thus h_eff = 7813. (approximately) That is the exact value eft shows if you select a 100% em damage profile and hover the mouse over armor hitpoints and wait for the tooltip.
That was a quick test but it worked. More detailed investigation must make the computations seperately for shield, armor and hull and then add up. Also don't forget that eft uses the uniform dmg profile (25% each dmg type) as standard. In that case you have to use the formula seperately for all dmg types and shield, armor and hull and then add up. Thats terribly complicated which might be the reason it didn't work out for you.

Edited by: Arkios Odymei on 27/12/2007 16:41:21 There are a couple ways you can go about doing it.
What I like to do is break it down by Shields, Armor, and Hull HP.
Simply take your Shield HP and divide it by (1 minus the decimal interpretation of each resistance type) to find the effective shield HP for each resistance. Then you can average the 4 resistance effective Hp's to get an Average Shield Evvective HP. (Note: You can average the resistances before hand if you are just looking for a quick average, but I find doing it on a per resist basis much more informative)
Do this for Armor to find your Average Effective Armor HP, and for Hull to find the Average Effective Hull HP.
Next, You can add up the 3 of these Average effective HP's to find your Average Total HP. (Note: It actualy may be beneficial to look at the lowest resistance effective HP for each of the 3 Types and add them up, as This would be a "worst case scenario" Lowest Effective HP).
"1 minus the decimal interpretation who what?" Convert your resistance to a decimal. If your armor kinetic resistance is 30%, it becomes 0.30. If your hull has a Damage Control II, the resists will be 60%, or 0.60. If your shields hav 10% EM resist, it is 0.10.
1 minus this number is simply factoring in the percentage of damage that actualy gets thru your resists and deals damage to your raw HP.
Example:
A ship has 50% Average Shield Resists across the board, 60% Average Armor resists across the board, and 0% Hull Resists. It has 1000 Shield HP, 1500 Armor HP, and 1000 Hull HP.
Shield HP / (1- Decimal resists) = Average Effective Shield HP 1000 / (1 - 0.50) = 1000 / 0.5 = 2000 Effective Shield HP
Armor HP / (1- Decimal resists) = Average Effective Armor HP 1500 / (1 - 0.60) = 1500 / 0.4 = 3750 Effective Armor HP
Hull HP / (1- Decimal resists) = Average Effective Hull HP 1000 / (1 - 0) = 1000 / 1 = 1000 Effective Hull HP
Total Effective HP = All 3 effective added together 2000 + 3750 + 1000 = 6750 Average Total Effective HP ------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: The Djego on 27/12/2007 16:42:34 1. add all Resistances
2. |((Summ of resistances)/4)-1| /1 * (Shild/Armor/Hull HP)
3. do the same with Shild, Armor and Hull
4. add all
= Efective HP
