Edited by: Ryushe on 28/12/2007 05:28:16 As per title, as of this time/date I am no longer able to retrieve information from the API from a server in the States as well as a server in Amsterdam. Anyone aware of any issues or planned outages?
Forgot to mention the time supplied being EVE time, ie. GMT

Same. Was messing with stuff, and the server started to reset connections.

Yeah, it seems it fixed itself around 1 1/2 hours later. EVE Dev channel on IRC confirms this. Ah well, as long as it works again we're all good ;)

It's been happening every night now. I guess there's some maintenance going on.

Could we get some clarification on this maybe? Pretty hard to develop stuff in your free time if the API has an unknown downtime... Is this a regular thing? Is it comparable to the daily downtime for EVE itself? What is the reason? Questions, questions, but no answers :/

Whatever's going on with these downtimes seems to be screwing with the M-Short cached pages. These downtimes are causing the API cache to assume I've been hitting up the API at around 7:30, which means I'm having to wait until about 14:00 to do map generation. It's getting to the point where I need to set the map to generate at DT + 6 hours, because I never know when the nutty API is going to decide that I deserve old data instead of new data. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

It's not regular maintainence- it's not regular whatsoever. I've spotted this happening about 3 times now. I'll knock together a status monitor for the API in a bit perhaps so we can work out when this is happening.

Might not be regular maintenance, but it's coincidental then that it almost always happens around 05:00 GMT. So far, I've noticed around 3 or 4 outages myself. Again, if you're reading this 2Kay (or any other dev for that matter), any response would be more than welcome.

Well, it was revealed by someone from CCP that the downtime we've been seeing is caused by someone in CCP disabling API access for some time to lessen the load on the database servers, or so I understand. This makes sense, and seeing as it's a 'necessary' thing, we'll learn to live with it. All it requires is for everyone to maintain decent caches of the data, as well as more and better checking for API availability before actually requesting data from it...

Not that I'd accuse CCP of lying or being misinformed, but they're disabling the API at 5am? That's well off of the peak player time, I'm having a very, very, ve-ery hard time believing that the DB needs to have its load reduced at that hour. It doesn't add up. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

This is a bit of a pain trying to use the api when it goes down frequently (like right now).

It goes down at 5am(GMT) on the dot and comes up again approximately 6am(GMT) - like normal DTs the return time can vary. I don't know why, but I do know it is unrelated to CCP taking it offline to reduce DB strain - you can tell ingame when the DB is under strain and as far as I know they've only done this once (they took contract system offline as well)
It would be nice to get something official on this, but I've given up hope that anything official about the API will come out. Proof that 2kay really exists and is a real person would be a good starting point right now
