What persentages of your skills are lost when you die?

none if you have a clone that covers all your skill points

And if you dont have a good clone you will lose 1 lvl of a high random skill (like lvl 5 to lvl 4) with the max of the difference between the clone and current skill points
like:
you got 1mil points and the clone covers 0.5mil points
you die and you will lose a lvl 5 so it will be 0.75m left
but if you had a clone that covers 0.8 you will lose 1 level but still keep 50k skill points of that lvl

I've done this on chaos when they had everyone with all the science skills, I had 14m skillpoints, I podded myself with a basic clone, and lost like 500k sp in one of the skills I had at level 5 (which was mimmatar starship engineering which is a rank 5 skill).
So a basic clone with 10m skillpoints might not be that bad, but I sure dont want that to happen to me.
They should change the clone system, instead of skillpoints they can be based on percentage, basic would be like 75%, and a 100% clone would cost a arm and a leg from your old corpse.

They had originally planned something similar way back in beta, however it was flamed to ashes either in the last days of beta or the first week of final.

Clones and loosing skillpoints is a sensetive issue. I think that CCP has worked this out just fine. Clones aren't too expensive and all you have to do is make sure that once you get podded, you get a new clone.
If people would start too loose all their hard work too easily, we sure as hell wouldn't have 7700+ users online each sunday...

The question will be important in some months when the first players have more skillpoints than the best current clone can keep (19.2 million). Having the best clone then will not prevent loosing a lot of skill points. |

I was foolish enought to get podded twice in one night. The second time I had forgoten to get a new clone and I lost exactly 5% of my skill points (400k), all on my Gal Indy 5 skill.
I went absolutely mad and hid myself away doing agent missions for 10 days while I regained most of the points.

That's an interesting point. But I guess that CCP will throw out some sort of new clone that maybe is reeeally expensive for those who have that many skillpoints.
