6 weeks ago I joined EVE with 2 friends. The idea was that I would specialized in Leadership so as to give bonus when we work as a group. So far it has been disappointing.
Since then I learned that 'Gangs' don't give bonuses. In fact it seems that since the Trinity update there's no more Gang - when grouped, ships can only form a Fleet.
Right now I'm Wing Commander Level 3. When we're the 3 of us, I'm Wing Commander. The little light goes green for my 2 friends under me in Squad - but it does not seem they receive bonus at all - their stats and attributes don't change.
The closest I've come to make sense of this is when I read that for a fleet to give bonus, it must have a Fleet Commander, that is a player with the Fleet Command Skill. Which is $18M, a considerable investment to make at this stage, not to mention the time investment.
I spent lots of time looking in these forums but never found a proper answer. The Knowledge Base article seems outdated, since Gang had been phased out. The Trinity patch notes don't mention anything about Fleet, even though the interface changed considerably.
My question today: is there a great link on Fleet rules? Is it absolutely a muct to have Fleet Command to give bonuses when in Fleet mode? Has gangs been phased out?
(I know about http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=166 but find it lacking).
Thanks a bunch! ------------------ Veldspar fears me.

No, there doesn't need to be someone in the FC position.
The easiest way to solve your problem, is to demote yourself to Squad Commander.
Another way is to have one of your buddies train Leadership up a bit, and place him/her as Squad Command, with you in Wing. That's really overkill, though, and your buddies probably have better things to train anyway.

Okay... serious question. Have you trained any of the actual support skills that give the bonuses, or just Wing Command? You got me wondering, here. _______ We are Ushra'Khan. We come for our people. |

Edited by: HugoBrainz on 28/12/2007 21:52:36 Thanks for your answer! Here are my skills in the Leadership category:
L4: Armored Warfare / Rank 2 / SP: 90510 of 512000 L2: Information Warfare / Rank 2 / SP: 2829 of 16000 L5: Leadership / Rank 1 / SP: 256000 of 256000 L2: Siege Warfare / Rank 2 / SP: 2829 of 16000 L3: Skirmish Warfare / Rank 2 / SP: 16000 of 90510 L1: Wing Command / Rank 8 / SP: 3265 of 11314
Not sure what Rank means, I think it's about the training time modifier. And I added the Level I'm at L1-2-3 etc.
So you're saying that when there's a green light, the bonuses are given? Somehow my friends don't see their attributes change. Shield should go 4% up (due to Siege Warfare level 2, giving a 2% shield bonus per level) but it does not show... Unless it's effective, but 'hidden'? ------------------ Veldspar fears me.

K, looks like you just need to be in the right position.
Place yourself in Squad Command, and all those bonuses should be given to your squad. (Including yourself)
You need to be somewhere in same solar-system, and undocked.
You can see the effect of shield bonus going active... it will appear as red "damage". (Not really damage, but the extra shield amount regenerates upwards). The rest of the bonuses would appear hidden, but easily checkable.
If you right-click the capacitor wheel thing, you can ShowInfo your ship and it will show attributes on your ship that include any/all bonuses.
The important part is keeping the leadership chain unbroken. If you are in WC, someone with Leadership skill needs be in Squad Command. Simply place yourself in that position (no need for WC or FC in such small gang) and you should be golden. _______ We are Ushra'Khan. We come for our people. |

Create the fleet. Make sure all your buddies are in Squad 1 Move yourself to Squad 1 as Squad Cmdr
You should see the green light come on and everyone should receive the appropriate bonuses. -=^=-

With Leadership skill at V, a squad can have a max of 10 ships. So letĘs say I train Wing Command to lvl 3. That means I can control 3 squads consisting of 10 ships right? What if I place a character with only the Leaderships skill at III as a squad commander? Does that mean that particular squad can now only contain a max of 6 ships?
Furthermore, there can only be one booster regardless of squad/wind/fleet size correct? Or letĘs say I'm set as wing commander controlling 2 wings and giving out bonuses because I have Siege Warfare to lvl 4. What if I appoint a squad commander who also has Siege command to lvl 4. I don't suppose his squad will have his booster bonus in addition to mine?
Thanks

Yes, you can control 3 squads. Yes, that squad can only have a maximum of 6 members.

Nope, only the highest bonus counts. Suppose you had Siege Warfare 5 and the squad commander had it to 4, then the squad would get the Siege Warfare 5 bonus (I believe there's a bug where commanders only get their own bonuses though).
The fleet structure will also filter down the best skills as well - suppose the Wing Commander had Siege Warfare 5 and the Squad Commander had Skirmish Warfare 5, then the squad would get the bonuses for both skills as 5.
Edit: typos
