I live out in 0.0, and I've been playing around with the idea of purchasing a small pos tower and trying to make money off of moon mining. I wouldn't be running much, all I can think of at the moment is all the structures related to moon mining (maybe a reactor), a corp hangar and a mobile lab. I'm looking to invest 200-300 mil initially, and would be getting help from some friends with the logistics of keeping it running in exchange for having them use most of the lab slots.
Assuming I can keep the thing protected, fueled, and can move the products. Would this sound like a profitable venture?
And I'm not rushing into this, I plan on taking my time to make sure I don't end up dumping 300m isk down the drain.

Guer,
There is a lot of money in the moon market now with the jump freighter and other T2 ships released. The demand has climbed. I've personally watched the markets shift just as much as the asteroid mineral markets did with the release of capital ships. Samething is slowly happening where the lower end reactions/T2 components are worth more money vs the higher ends. While the flip flop isn't as sharp of a decline and rise as the trit prices were but I think you could find a steady income on certain moon minerals.
Just some of my thoughts.. best of luck in this now volatile market. ______________________________________________

Well, you know how much fuel it would need and can calculate the cost per hour. Divide this by 100 and look in the market what materials are worth more than that. Now you only have to find a free moon.

If you're getting a small tower, you cannot run reactions; reactions require a medium tower at least, and to run complex reactions (or more than one simple reaction) you will need a large tower.
Moon mining alone, though, is easily done on a small tower. If you're lucky enough to stumble on a good moon, you can be bringing in upwards of 150 million ISK every week; that's pretty good for a small tower.
Yes, you can run labs, but the practical application of doing so is not great unless you're doing invention or something similar in 0.0 space.
Just be very careful with logistics; the most important thing to have to run a POS is well-organized logistics that can meet the demand of your industry. Without it, you'll just throw ISK down the drain.

thanks for the responses, this is just what I was looking for. I just need to figure out which moons are "good" moons. Also, would I need a silo? and if so, what kind? They all kind of look the same.

Edited by: Garek Selwonk on 30/12/2007 23:25:10 Edited by: Garek Selwonk on 30/12/2007 23:24:15 I'm just considering a moon mining pos myselft, but heres my advice:
You would need 1 silo for each mineral you will be mining, each silo can only hold 1 different material at a time, you only need to use the normal Silo's for the moon ores. But if you conect the harvesters straight to the reactor, you only need 1 silo at the end. Also, you could use 'coupling arrays' which are like mini-silos, but usually used between silos & havesters/reactors to catch any material that is output while the silo is offline, during empting.
A good site for pos info is Eve-guides
Work out the cost of your pos on a spreadsheet, or use the 'My POS' tool which you'll find in the stickies here in the forum.
Also, go to Jita or your nearest trading hub and find out the prices of the moon ores, I found it best to make a little spreadsheet for all the info to work out the potential profits.
I found a useful spreadsheet on EVE files too, here. I made some modifications to it, updated all the prices for myself added an extra few columns/rows for daily and weekly profit.
I'v been having trouble finding any good ores from probing, thinking about settling at a moon with silicates and evaporite deposites and combining in a reactor..which would need a medium tower...but the profit only looks to be around 50mil a week which isn't much considering the amount you can get from justing mining out here in 0.0
Anyway, hope the advice is helpful, and good luck with the pos

Coupling arrays as actual buffers are pretty useless. No configuration actually needs them... you just need to keep track of the cycle timer, which is pretty damn easy.

well I'll just be running a small pos, so no reactors for me.
it looks like, small tower, silo, moon miner, corp hangar, and then just guns and hardeners.
