I've been having problems with Tiscali for about 2 months now. They are, without doubt, the biggest bunch of pillocks it has ever been my misfortune to encounter.
I've been unable to connect to Eve between 7 and 11 most evenings and their support staff simply deny that any sort of bandwidth management is going on. I've been hung up on once by their monkeys.
Fortunately, the problems really started well after my 12 month contract ended (those just starting, I feel for you, I really do) and so means I can leave.
I have looked into the options and am calling their cancelation line tomorrow to get my MAC code. Then I'm switching to Plusnet's Broadband Your Way Pro (online gaming priority) package at the earliest convenience.
When I contacted Plusnet, they said that I was not the first Tiscali Eve gamer to come to them. In fact, they used to work with Tiscali on some of their network but dumped them because they were losing gamers through the association. I've been assured that all games, including Eve, get priority bandwidth all the time on the above package.
The nicest part is that they do a 90 day money back guarantee if you're not completely satisfied after that time. So if they start 'managing' online games (which I doubt), I can get my money back.
I'm really looking forward to that phone call tomorrow where I can answer the question, 'Why do you want to leave?'
My only worry is that a full answer might use up next week's food money in phone charges.

I know how you mate. I use Demon at home and never have a problem. The problem i have is when i go home on leave and sent time at mums house, shes on Tiscali and always kicks me off. SO i rang up Asking for my MAC code so i could switch her isps. I was looking forward to the "Why do you wanna leave question?" but was gutted when i never got it. They didnt even ask. On the plus code i got the MAC code SMS and emailed to me in less that 3 hours after requesting it!

Well, I did it. I got my MAC code from Tiscali and it only took them 30 minutes! First think they've done right in months (I guess they get a lot of practice lol)
I've created my Plusnet account and now eagerly await the 7-10 day switch over point.
Tiscali; may your reproductive organs' shrink to the size of raisins and monkey turds rain on you from on high!

Congrats on gettign away from Tiscali. I to used to suffer with their shoddy services.
One word of warning tho....
Plusnet are in some ways Affiliated with Tiscali. I dont know how deep it goes but I know at least they use part of Tiscali's LLU's.
This may cause you problems in the future.
But I do hope it goes well for you.

Yes Congrats to OP, the Tiscali forums have got a bit heated, they have had to put their foot down lol.
As you say, research it first, Google "plusnet+tiscali", it gets you plenty of results, make of it what you will
