It's rather strange. I can play every other game fine at 70 degrees or whatever, but as soon as I open eve, it shoots up to 90-100+. If I leave eve open long enough, it crashes my pc.
Even stranger, this only happens when eve is the active window. If i have eve in window mode and a game of minesweeper or w/e open in front of it, I dont get any of these problems. So, if i want to play, I have to leave a window open beside eve i can easilly click to , to cool down the graphics card temp.
Does anyone else get problems like this with eve? It seems strange that more graphics intensive games run at a cooler temprature than eve.

weirdness, you tried capping fps with Vsync?

Same here, but it only happens when docked.
Can spend all day doing level 4 missions and my 7600gt will hardly break 68 degrees, but soon as I dock ... graphics card temperature rises and the fan speed increases and I've watched the temperature rise to 98 degrees within as many seconds.
PITA when you want to take a quick break, but don't want to dock for fear of overheating ... I've taken to slow boating to/from a station while I get a coffee or go for a smoke.

I was actually about to edit my thread saying it seems to be more severe when docked. 
Makes no sense.

Same here, my 8600gt seems to just freak out when docked and happens every once in a while in space. I've had to enable SLI and run in full screen mode just to get 60 between each card. :/
but now I get sound static since I enabled SLI.

Same here, my GPU temps goes up as well to around 85-90 degrees celsius. So my computer sounds like an airpl... spaceship during lift off when I am docked ;).

Problem:
Eve client fails, sometimes a "Display driver stopped" message, more often a complete lockup with black or grey screen, requiring a hard reset.
Happens: Anytime, has happened in station, but more often in complex mission combat with lots of NPC's and effects going off.
Attempted fixes which have not worked:
Sound disabled.
cache cleared.
client reinstalled.
Display drivers removed/reinstalled.
Latest DirectX installed. *suggested by dev.
Possible diagnostic factors.
GPU temp (Eve seems to overload the graphics hardware, causing massive temps, even on 100% fan I cannot keep my GPU temp < 70 DegC).
Scene complexity (Tends to happen more in situations with lots of ships/effects, like mordus headhunters 4).
Server load? (not proven, but I *seem* to have more crashes when 30000 + on the server).
Fan speed changing? (not sure but I have noticed that the eve client sometimes hesitates when the fan speed changes, maybe related).
System:
Asus p5b
Core2Duo 6600
2 Gb Ram
ATI X1900 256MB / Catalyst 7.11
SoundMax integrated HD Audio
Vista Home Premium 32 / DirectX Nov 2007

I've had this. Went out for a smoke and my girl friend told me that my computer was making some beeping noise. On closer examination, I found out that my graphics card temperature had spiked to around 90C while I went AFK at a dock, which had triggered some sort of notification from my video card drivers... weirdness. :)
x1950 Pro, Cat 7.12's, Premium Graphics enabled.

I have made some observations today, I will try to send a bug report later on.
Gpu temp overheating does not seem to be a cause for display driver crashing imo.
I got a new system, but with a custom gpu cooler, yet the display driver Cat 7.12 in Vista 64 crashed and recovered several times when i was outside a station in Jita, with only 10-20 ships around. AA and AF was maxed out btw.
Gpu temp was apparantly only 40ish deg C and gpu activity was never 99%, more like 40-50%, so that makes me think that there is something else than the card overheating.
I have noticed that AA/AF settings in Catalyst control center may be unfavorable at this time.
If I turn off AA/AF in Catalyst control center before starting the game, I no longer get any display driver crashes as far as I can tell atm.

This is a long time problem with Eve, when I started playing, it fried one video card, toasted another's fan. I doubled the cooling 'capacity' on the card and doubled it again on the system. Still runs very hot, but I spend very little time in station so am not sure about Trinity's new station environment effect. I did note that frame rates dropped from 80+ to 9  in station after the Trinity upgrade.
Eve code is inefficient to the extreme when it comes to graphic performance, imho  I think the Devs do it on purpose, CCP doesn't heat the building  so the video cards take the chill off the Iceland winters.
