What is the advantage of owning this ship? Other than a large hold, it is defenseless.
I have only considered buying this ship for Corp mining operation, but wanted to get a few opinions first.
Anyone have one, and how do YOU use it?

Currently I'm looking for a low-sec solution for hauling large amounts of material where no base is present. Currently we use a lot of Bestowers to move that material, but it involves many dangerous jumps to deposit the material. |

The Providence is a Freighter. I takes Forever and a Day to align and as you have pointed out is pretty most helpless if attacked. If you are considering using one of these beats in Low Sec you will need a Large defence force to say with it at all time. Imagine it as a Heavy Goods Vehicle in a world where everyone drives tanks. It is also worth noting you cannot scoop from cans in belts etc. by using it. The main reason for using it is moving high volumes around High Security space. If you are wanting to move things in low sec you are really just left with a) Multiple Haulers (maybe even transport ships) b) Jump Freighters (lol hope you have enough isk) or c) Carriers. I use option a) for my use.
Hope this helps.

Thank You Narine, That is exactly the advice I was looking for. Our Corp is about teamwork! That said we (meaning miners) are well protected. However, it is our Bestowers that are often under attack when jumping. I was hoping that a Providence could replace the Bestowers with ONE PROTECTED JUMP. If what you say is true, and this ship cannot scoop cargo containers, then it is worthless to me.

I could save money for another few months and buy a Rorqual, but I have heard it cannot dock, nor leave low sec.
Can anyone elaborate?

The Rorqual cannot leave Low Sec as it is too big to use a standard Stargate and needs to use a Cynosaural Field to traverse between systems. These cannot be opened in high Security space. As for docking I think it can but have no first hand experience of flying it so I may be wrong.

Once again Narine, thank you. That is consistent with what I have learned from corp. The Providence is a waste of money, and so is the Roqual:( Im not ready to gamble that much money yet. At least for now!
Thanks again, K

Replace Bestowers with Mammoths (minmatar) for low SP haulers. Should you like to dedicate more SP for hauling, transport ships are a good option - check them.
Transports come in 2 flavours:
Blockade Runners: fast and agile with built-in core stabilizers and 3500~4000 m3 cargo space for solo or hauler + a frig/ceptor for small party hauling in low sec. A Prorator or a Prowler with agility rigs + MWD + Improved cloaking dev are VERY-VERY effective blockade runners - even in the "bubbled" era.
Heavy Transports: slower than the blockade runners, but still better tanked and with more cargo space than T1 indys. Check the Impel. Much safer to use in low sec than a freighter, and cost way less. Training required is comparable tho...
Always use Giant Secure Containers to maximize your cargo hold.

Thanks Diomidis, Ive compared the Bestower to the Mammoth, and the Mammoth does indeed hold much more. Since we are mostly Amarr, the skill training might be counter-productive. However, we do have a few Minmatar in our ranks, I will ask them if they can help.
Thanks

friggie3 and indy 4 is all it takes, friggie3 takes around 10 hours with implants and learningskills, indy 4 around 4 days. Sure you cant train amar stuff like shiny hulls and copper polishing, but you get to use a nice indy in return :) ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs! I want my hello-kitty-kessie!
