Hey UK pod pilots,
I'm very used to the wonderful website known as www.newegg.com for all my computer addiction's needs. However I'm trying to spec out a PC for my brother in the UK.
What's a good PC components website in the UK that has a product range similar to newegg?
Thanks! --

Overclockers are fine if you're willing to hope nothing goes wrong. If something does you have the worst customer support I've ever had the misfortune to encounter (it took several months and almost getting to court to get my money back from them).
Personally I've had no issues with dabs since. They're a bit more expensive than OC, but worth the extra cost imo.

Scan have **** customer service too.
i bought a faulty motherboard off them years ago and after ******* me around (sending the same board back claiming it was a new one etc.) for months on end they finally sent it back and told me it worked fine, and no i couldn't have a replacement/refund.

All depends on the store's staff tbh. When I used to be in the UK I met some good people at maplin who knew their stuff. -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

I'll have you know that the manager of the PC World I work at knows a great deal about TVs. ...Unfortunately a farmer who's never used a PC in his life would probably know more about PCs than him. I'm not even kidding.
Most of the sales advisors don't actually know a great deal about the products they're selling, they're just trained and paid to sell them to clueless people - which is fine I suppose. I've lost count of how many times I've heard "I've got one of these myself and it's really good" from another CA
Still, their customer service is a lot more respectable than anything I've recieved from Overclockers. It took me 2 months to receive the correct power adaptor for my TFT monitor and the guy on the phone sounds stoned/half asleep most the time. If I cared more about anything but price I wouldn't even consider shopping there

dabs.com Alright. Have sent me B-Grade stock by accident in the past.
overclockers.co.uk No problems so far, but thern again I've never had to return anything to them.
scan.co.uk Tends to ignore my chosen delivery date, then give a lame excuse when I phone up and complain.
ebuyer.com No problems so far. Only thing to be aware of is that they use multiple couriers for some deliveries. So you'll get two couriers turning up in a single day.

My experience: Overclockers.co.uk is the best if you are in a good citylink delivery area and there is no hardware fault. Although I've only ever had to return a single RAM module with no problems, there was some trouble with return packaging on my brothers 40" HD TV after the sound died on it. We had to threaten legal action to get the problem sorted. However, we both still use them.
microdirect.co.uk were very good. I had to return a motherboard and CPU combo when was turned out to be faulty (think it was the CPU in the end) but it was sorted out very quickly (the day it arrived AFAIK).
ebuyer.co.uk normally have good prices and quick delivery, never had to return anything to them.
