Edited by: zurich93 on 31/12/2007 11:46:52 So christmas has come and gone and I have saved and scraped for a few months and have the cash to buy a new PC. I have ú1000 +/- ú100 to spend inc vat on the new machine + a monitor and it needs to be prebuilt as i havent got the experience to build it my self yet. The PC will be for gaming so games like EvE CS:S Crisis. The best PC I have found for my cash so far is PC And also 19" Monitor
So what do you think and is there a better pc on the market i can get for my money?
Just thought i would add am incentive if i actually purchase the PC you recommend i will give you 100m isk. Nope starts here actually :O -----Sig starts here------- <3 Kaemonn eep eep beep heep keep womble... YOU DO NOT POSESS THE POWER TO DISGUINISH MY SIG FROM MY POST MWHAHAHA

Don't get AMD atm...
Also, why don't you find a shop where you can give the exact spec, which they build and then ship to you?
Something along: CPU: Core 2 Duo E6850 Video: 8800 GT or 8800 GTS (512mb!) or 2x 800 GT Motherboard: Something based on the P35 chipset, or better - ASUS/MSI/DFI/EPOX (in no particular order) make good motherboards. Fill rest as needed...

I know you don't think you have the expertise to build your own computer, but it's honestly easier than building Lego (albeit with more expensive bricks). Just bite the bullet and build it yourself. That way, you get exactly what you need and none of the stuff that you don't need but would pay for anyway in an off-the-shelf system. You'd end up with a much nicer computer for your money. All you need are:
* Motherboard * Processor * RAM * Graphics card * HDD * DVD drive * Case * Power supply * Operating system * Peripherals like mouse, keyboard, speakers and screen --------------------------------------------------------------------

Have a look at this company, DinoPC, someone from my corp bought one and is very happy with it. They seems quite cheap and upgrades seem very cheap compared to some suppliers.
Remember you have to add an OS if you want one as they come OSless as standard. __________________________________

And get at least a 20" monitor. The extra screen resolution is very nice over the 1440x900 of a 19" screen. __________________________________

we happen to have a small shop pc shop round the corner, that has been there for over 20 years now (what a good sign, ey)
some time ago they started to offer this service, and i think its quite common practice these days.
so id go with ryysa's suggestion. look for a nice lil shop, maybe a place where you like the employees. select components, wait few hours, get rig.

Where I come from, it's pretty much normal that you get this "service".
You can either choose everything yourself (if you **** up rather bad with something, they'll tell you that it doesn't really work that way) or you can choose some standard set they have to offer and modify some specifications.
Either way, I am really sure there are more than enough places in the UK which will accomodate you that way.

Edited by: Avery Fatwallet on 31/12/2007 13:30:37 you have to understand... between my buying pc stuff now and my last experience as a pc shop customer around 10 to 15 years have passed.
the one computer i bought about 5 years ago... well.. i bought it in a supermarket.
im not kidding. not even a big supermarket, more like a small grocery store. but they had pcs. (they probably "fell of a truck" or something)
so when i returned to geekyness i was baffled how convenient shopping for parts was these days.

Mesh Computers ú999, 22" monitor, 4gb of RAM, Intel Quad Core 6600 (great to be overclocked) a pair of SLI nvidia 8600 cards. with that much extra ram, SLI on a 22" screen would be a much more fun gaming machine.
Novatech is interesting too. 2gig of graphics card memory? Fetch the kleenex... and it can come without any OS if you want to be a linux bunny, etc it does'nt have a monitor, but you can get 'em for ú199 for a 22" widescreen in options, plus at that price, easily look at another 2 gig of ram.
and neither is made by overc*ckers, who are a bunch of corrupt *expletives* by all reports.

Edited by: Shinnen on 31/12/2007 13:54:39 no point in a 768mb VRAM card when you're only using a 19" monitor tbh.
But 1 8800GTX is still better than 2 8600's! -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

Edited by: Suze''Rain on 31/12/2007 13:55:53 following your latest post about building yourself:
probably better value. BFG gfx cards are gorgeous, from experience. however. 1: no sound card. for 20 quid more, you might as well include one. 2: invest in a second 80-100gb HD as well, and stick Vista on that, as C: with everything else on the 500gb drive. it'll cost you ú30 more, and will save you a year of hassle when you have to reinstall someday, as all your games, data, work, etc are on the second drive. 3: that 19" monitor is pretty weedy. in this, the spam adverts are true. Everyone loves to be bigger. I bought viag*ahem* a 22" monitor back in 2001, and it was the best computer upgrade I've ever made. your PC will be upgraded a dozen times in its life, but the monitor will probably remain... best to buy the best you can at the start.

*grin* I found that for ú30 quid, the physical seperation of the drives was convenient, as it really did'nt cost much at all... and let me pop out my main HD for use in other PCs while my computer was borked.

Tweak as you like but that would be a pretty rocking machine. There is some head room in cost to add a monitor or whatever else you like. Prices are in dollars but still falls easily within your budget.
